Two-handers

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:06 am

I'm curious as to why anyone would use anything other than a two handed hammer besides maybe looks and preference. Axes do bleed which isn't that great when you 2-4 hit enemies, swords is nice but I'd put it second to mace because of the fairly low crit but hammers ignore 75% armor; by the time you max out your smithing enchanting and alchemy for superpower weapon hammers have no comparison?

It's not all about min/max-ing the hell out of the game. Swords are "fast" (-er) than the other options. There's nothing really wrong with any of the choices... your character still wins or dies. That outcome isn't going to be based on your choice. I tend to pick different weapons for different characters, and with the inclusion of the finishing moves it makes even more sense. I'll be able to to play a hammer character later and get all new moves.

I use both 2-handed hammers and axes/swords, each with its own enchant, WIth my Hammer it does fire damage so its a even bigger hit, With my axe/sword its magika draining. I do this becuase most mages dont really use much armor if any so the extra crit i think is better than the armor pen. against them. But i may be wrong :/

I would agree unless your fighting a bunch of enemies who stunlock you before your strike can go off. I can get one dual spell and 4 normal spells off in the amount of time it takes them to start swinging their mace. Rinse and repeat. Not that npc's are smart enough to keep you stunlocked.

Well, maces as they're presented in-game pretty much only came into existence as the solution to swords and axes being pretty poor against plate armour; which has rounded surfaces, causing bladed weapons to skim off instead of 'biting'.

The armour nullifier of maces is a little high, but at least it corroborates with their actual use.

I started out as a two-hander but then switched to sword and shield for the extra protection--of course, some enemies seen to ignore the time and thought I put into the extra protection part. :whistling:

I think the Two Handed Hammers (maces?) look best. Though, sometimes I like the speed of the sword. It seems quicker.

I used hammers a lot in the beginning but they're actually really slow and it's pretty annoying because that forward power attack just takes ages to perform. So right now I'm using an axe but I haven't really specced in any of the weapon choices so trying out a different weapon will never be a loss.

But my Wuuthrad has been keeping my interest for a long time now, will be sad if I ever replace it. Feels pretty honorable using it after doing the whole Companions quest line. ^^

Yes Hammers sorry I always call em Maces. An interesting thing about 2-H Swords the perk description says "even more critical damage" I would assume this means for example 1 perk gives you 50% extra crit damage and 3 points gives 150% critical damage maybe. Or am I just reading it wrong. This is very interesting depending on how much extra critical damage you get.

Don't care about looks it's all about those dps :) can anyone make an aproximate calculation of this? If the combat goes on for 10 secs, 30 secs, 1 min, 2 min something like that?

General observations:

1. Swords are good because they're faster. Allows you to finish your attack and move, or switch to block, faster. Best defensive option.

2. Hammers have the armor penetration that make them the best against plate.

3. Axes do the most damage when you joust, or otherwise spread your attacks out (for example, when you attack then block / bash, then attack, etc).

So, depends on your playstyle. My current warrior uses 2h but also makes extensive use of blocking and bashes. Axe helps a bit because the bleed damage adds up well. The sword's crit is unreliable, and the hammers are just slowas[censored], and they only have strong benefits versus plate.

At the end of the day though, the only major differences are as follows:

1. Looks.

2. Hammers are slowest and swords are fastest.

Equisite Skyforge Steel Greatsword. I have orcish and dwarven warhammers, a sword I keep handy for when I try to use a shield... Even though for some reason equipping a shield feels like i'm equipping a wet burlap sack with the amount of damage protection it gives me... I've tried most of the weapons but still go back to the Greatsword.

For one reason.

The critical cut scene kill brings a smile to my face each and everytime lol
