Types Of Dragons In Skyrim

Post » Mon Jul 18, 2011 3:49 pm

I know there are already a lot of threads about this, but they're pretty chock full and far back in the pages so i thought i'd start a new one. Bethesda has already confirmed two types of dragons: Fire and Frost, with the latter being the more potent. What other kinds of dragon's would you like to see in skyrim? And remember this isn't World of Warcraft, no cheesy color-coded elemental dragons, we want unique ideas.

To start off i'll list a few i think might be interesting to see:

1.Breathless Dragon: Dragon that instead of having some sort of breath power would specialize rather in the more physical attacks, i.e. claws, tail, biting, etc.

2.Raptor: Small dragons that would attack in small packs at once and could have no special power or perhaps spew a weaker flame or some other kind of power

3.Sea Dragon: Skyrim borders the northern ocean of tamriel which the nords crossed to reach atmora. The fact that dragons have been implemented in nord lore since their first recording might mean they saw some of these beasts on the trip over. Fast, no or retractable wings, serpent body, perhaps a venom of some sort

4.Sonic Dragon: Have in place of a breath some kind of roar that would paralyze/stagger you, maybe cause slight bleeding depending on level

5.Siren: Have the power to simulate human voices to draw people in, perhaps also the ability to call other dragons to its aid

well we have seen one traditional fire breathing dragon and a Frost dragon. I could imagine the elements, Earth, Wind, Fire, Water.

Or maybe some Stone Dragons like the one in the trailer. It's, like, made out of rock and spews Stonefire: a fire that is impossible to extinguish(except for the Dovahkiin). :flamethrower: :shocking:

A dragon with rock scales would be interesting, perhaps slower to kill, but slower to move as well, maybe unable to fly even.
Still, the goal of this thread is to think outside the box for some really unique ideas.

I'd like to see something like this as well. I'd also like to see an aquatic dragon, of sorts.. :foodndrink:...

These are the dragons that will be in skyrim... http://pc.ign.com/articles/118/1182286p1.html .. :P joking. Ausgamers recently video interviewed Todd and asked him :

AusGamers: Is there only those two dragon archetypes?

Todd: No, there are more. We’re not talking about that yet, but there are other ones. I don’t want to say the exact number -- we’re still messing with it. There aren’t a lot, but there are more.

Im guessing that there are about 7 dragons in the game. Fire, Frost/Ice, Water, Magma (made of burning magma skin or something), Nature (poisonous), Thunder and Wind (very fast ones).

I'd be disappointed of there are 4 or less types of dragons.

Few More Ideas:

1.Chameleon: Able to blend in with the environment, hunt's at night. It would be weak and you have to kill it by listening.

2.Dragon Lairs: Perhaps they could take a page out of the bible and implement the whole mountain of jewels thing. Maybe a little silly but just brainstorming here.Could also be used to hunt down specific dragons, and maybe even if stealth kill/murder them in their lairs as they sleep. This would make a great addition for players using stealth.

3.Mage Dragon: Dragon that is weaker physically and will keep more of a distance from the player, has a variety of shouts that coordinate to magic.
(EDIT) Mage dragon would use teleportation magic to try and get close and attack you, this would be the moment when you would attack it

Again, we're trying to stem away from the whole basic elemental dragons, trying to do a thread about really unique ones you would like to see in the game.

oh kk. I have no idea for the types of dragons, but I have another idea about them. What if every dragon isn't exactly the same even if it is of the same archtype. For example different patches, patterns or even wounds. It'd be much more fun and realistic if, for example you hit a dragon and take an eye out and you dont kill him and somehow you escape him, and then you could meet him again another time, still having the eye out. That would be awesome.

Even More Ideas:

Armored Dragon: Is thickly skinned and impossible to attack in general. Instead has a number of weakpoints(joints) where you must attack, these attacks would do substantial damage

Lake Dragon: Would hide in the deep water and try to drag you down and drown you. Disadvantages would be weak skin it would have to stay more stream-line in the water.

Bat Dragon(s): Large Dragon or multiple small ones that hide on the ceilings of large caves, would have a high chance of contracting disease from them, weakness to light/fire

I like the idea of the Chameleon Dragon... I think that a Chameleon Dragon should be smaller, perhaps the size of a very large bear... And it'd be much weaker than a normal dragon, but it'd stock the player as well as local fauna... You'd have to use either a "detect life" spell or pay very close attention to the surrounding environment and listen... Another type of Dragon could be a Mage/Siren-esque sort of beast. They could use their arcane energies to persuade the player that they were actually a man/woman/child/animal in distress... This would then lure the player into the Dragon's trap which they had crafted.. Though, each encounter would have to be very unique, for each tactic could only be used once...

For number 1, I think you mean Mute dragons. Dragons in Skyrim aren't just born into a single 'ability', they use their language for things like that (Dragon Shouts). Same goes for number 4 and 5. And for idea 2, dragons are meant to be big bosses, I'd rather they wouldn't become annoying, like scamps. I do agree with 3 though. I'd love to see or hear stories about sea monsters.

Awesome Idea, and maybe could be a recurring theme in the main quest, perhaps you meet a dragon in the beginning and you barely escape alive, later you meet him again and wound him and he escapes, and perhaps you would meet him as the final dragon boss of the main story.

Good point on number 2, perhaps more of a brood mother type of dragon that has a couple of them fighting with her?

I don't mind the humor but i want to keep this a serious and productive thread, so at least when you make a joke contribute to the topic as well :)

In Other News -

Moar Ideas -

Dwemer Dragon: This is an amazing idea in my opinion, you all know of the high-level of dwemers that lived in skyrim, so why not a fully mechanical dragon found in ancient dwemer ruins? Similar to the centurions we found in morrowind.

Elder Dragons: Beefed up versions of other dragons, that could be placed as guardians of word-walls

Dragon-Poaching/Captivity - not a kind of dragon but would be an interesting concept to see implemented, history has always shown that give a magnificent creature to the world and someone will find a way to exploit it. Perhaps you may find baby dragons caged and put on display in skyrim by hunters, and you could choose to kill the hunter and free it or kill it for it's soul to become stronger. The result would be lower disposition with certain people in that town/city

How scary would it be if you were doing a quest to search some island off the coast and while you are swimming a giant [censored]in sea monster (dragon) is swimming towards you. I'd seriously spew feces all over. I was freaked out a bit swimming in oblivion...
