So I decided to play out the stormcloak rebellion storyline and got to the point in the MQ where they both converge to the "peace talks". While we were discussing terms Im asked to chose a city/town to transfer between the two factions. As a bit if a strategist I automatically thought that giving Morthal to the Empire in exchange for Markath was an absolutely stellar deal.

Empire gets a pair of crappy mines and a tiny hard to defend town with no walls, and the Rebels get a fortress city, with a major silver mine and capture of it that alllowes them to unify the south of Skyrim under one banner, meaning no broken supply lines and a clear "front" to attack on and plenty of silver to buy supplies and arms with.


Ulfric calls me a traitor, says I have given the empire the tools it needs to win the war. Are your serious Ulfric? Can you fail anymore as a commander and tactician?

They both complain if you give one side more than the other. Its more about quantity over quality. They both dont care about the actual strategicness of a location. Just who you side with more.

Markarth isn't enough. If you give him Solitude as well as all of Skyrim, you're no longer a traitor.

I gave him Winterhold and Riften for Markarth and he said I was unfairly favoring the stormcloaks.

How so? They both react the same way depending on how many times you favor the other side, including whether or not you allow Elenwen to stay.
