Unable to Install Skyrim

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 2:10 pm

I bought the DVD for Skyrim. I followed the Sticky's instructions on how to install from the disc (why the HELL does it default to downloading from Steam if you've bought the disc? How is the average person supposed to know how to install it?!). A window comes up telling me that it's creating local game cache files. It kind of gets about halfway, then a popup comes up and says "The Steam Servers are currently too busy to handle your request." Then, get this, then the game starts downloading from the servers.

I went through hell to get this dvd delivered to me today and now I can't even install off the disc! What am I supposed to do? I'm certainly not downloading the game after all the money and effort that has already gone into this.

Okay, well that was very helpful.

I don't know what fixed it, but it's now installing. I first tried uninstalling and reinstalling steam and that still didn't work. I then ejected the disc, put it back in and did the instructions that were in the sticky and now it's working. Steam is made of fail.
