I am unable to remove the perk Elven Smithing.

I have opened the console using the tilde key, and found the Elven Smithing perk ID using the command:

help "Elven Smithing" 4

A single perk ID is displayed, 000CB40F.

I then input the following console command without success:

player.removeperk 000CB40F

I do not receive an error message (as I would if I entered an invalid perk id#), but the perk is not removed. I have failed after repeated attempts (closing and restarting the game and going back through all the steps, etc.). I cannot understand why this won't work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When adding or removing perks with the console it's best to do them in order. So if you have perks above Elven you need to remove them from Dragon down.

Like Abrinth said it's more than likely because you have smithing perks above Elven.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I do not have the Advanced Armors or other perks on the light armor side of the smithing tree, so there should be nothing to remove prior to removing Elven Armor.

However, I do have the Orc and Dwarf Armor perks on the heavy armor side of the Smithing tree, perks I want to keep. These logically should not be tied to the Elven Armor perk.

EDIT: I resolved the problem. I had forgotten to close console and Skills HUD and then re-open the Skills HUD. So I'd made the change correctly, but it didn't display as changed until after I re-opened the Skills HUD,

one thing i don't understand is why you put a "4" after help "elven smithing" i never put any number after using help
