Is unarmed assassin doable?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:54 am

Just wondering if it is worth trying to do a khajit who uses his claws. Is there an animation for sneaking up and killing someone with your bare hands?

Kind of svcks that heavy armor is required for bare hand damage increase, though.

I remember reading something about a sneaky neck snapping animation... May just be me dreaming about what unarmed should have been though.

I made an unarmed character, but I just get so bummed out about how far out of my way I need to go to make it half way viable.

There's a backstabbing animation for swords in which the player put a hand around the neck of the victim and runs the sword through the victim's chest. It looks similar...

there are also unique light gloves with "http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Fortify_Unarmed_Damage, 10 pts" for this kind of build

You'd have to try it yourself, unarmed has become pretty pointless now :/

With my level 59 character I can battle three Ice Trolls at the same time unarmed but with my level 9 character on Master difficulty I wouldn't even like to start a fight with one of the butterflies unarmed.

Sounds like an interesting build. As far as DB quests go you can literally just talk to your mark and tell them "I'm here to kill you" and start fighting. But as far as being sneaky with your hands only...I'm going to give it a run. Problem is there is no hand to hand skill and I'm not sure how damage scales with fists.

I just found that these gloves are disenchantable and the effect can be put on another gloves AND ring. So basically your build would look like this: khajit + heavy armor perk + two unarmed enchants

Unarmed damage bonus from heavy armor perk bases on armor rating of gauntlets, so smithing seems to be anoher "must have" for this build, to get legendary upgraded daedric gauntlets.

With my level 58 assassin I've never successfully been able to kill someone with an unarmed sneak attack. Without thee increased damage multiplier from the sneak tree one shoting enemies is impossible. Maybe out could be done on the weakest enemies at a low difficulty setting but on expert guards laughed at my unarmed sneak attack, did like 1/8th to 1/4 of their health bar. I highly doubt the khajiit bonus will make a big enough difference and I don't think the DB gloves double sneak attack bonus will apply, pretty sure it's for one handed only.

This is true. Unarmed damage is capped, and even with Fists of Steel only uses the base armor rating of the gauntlets, so it doesn't even matter how much you improve them, you won't do any more damage. See http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Combat for more details (Unarmed is the first section).

That's so dumb. If the damage reflected the actual defense rating of the gauntlets it would make it a viable way to play...

Really unarmed should have gotten a perk tree and a skill. Bummer it didn't

Unarmed damage is capped

It is severely limited due to how it is designed, but there is no cap. Restoration glitch will let you make this playstyle valid.

I'd recommend trying it at least. Its hilarious to start with, you're actually really powerful in early levels although it gets far harder as you level up. Winning brawls in 3 hits is funny as well.
Also, I recommend hotkeying your armour so you can sneak around naked (or in your sneaking clothes of choice) and then re-equip your armour as soon as you need to fight.

One of my characters I play is unarmed. Unfortunately since the limitation of the damage was relatively weak, I had to use the restoration loop to make a higher level fortify enchanting potion to enchant a ring with. I didnt go all crazy god mode, I think the end result was like +100 damage that I put on a ring. I play on master and this wasnt until around level 60 that I did this ,so its not ridiculous as I use light armor anyway so im not getting any help from fists of steel. As shown in the unarmed viking video, you can do really well at low levels unarmed if you plan it out, but once you start getting up there in levels, the npc health scaling will make it really tough. I suppose you could turn down the difficulty. Otherwise, exploiting the loop as I did may be the only way to make it fun. Of course if you're on PC, im sure there is some console commands you could use to adjust this as well.
