Unbound Plothole

Okay everyone knows when you're about to get executed, Alduin comes and saves the day by killing and destroying, everything in his path. However, before Alduin all the Stormcloak prisonersare bound, but after Alduin they are free. How did they get unbound and why does it take you choosing between Ralof (spelling?) and Hadvar (spelling?), to get unbound. Also how are you supposed to open a door, when your arms are bound together?

Pretty sure I would be able to open a door with my hands tied in front of me.

Other than that, I see your point.

You never see them become unbound, but it doesn't take long to cut ropes around your wrists if you find a blade to cut them on. Your head is on that block for a while. Guy with a sword gets blown over and sword lands by your feet...you rub the ropes on the blade, possibly with a fellow stormcloak holding it, the you grab the blade and quickly slit his bonds. Now you have a weapon and you and your comrade are free, oh and there is that prisoner too following you now...

How do you open a door with your arms bound? umm, only your arms are bound...your wrists are free and your arms are free to move simultaneously. Go grab a pair of handcuffs and lock yourself in them, in front of you, and see how hard it is to open the front door. If you don't have a pair of handcuffs, use a belt or a rope with a slipknot on it.

Alduin attacks, mass confusion, soldiers dying and dropping weapons, Stormcloak picks up weapon, cuts bindings off another prisoner who then returns favor.

Also IIRC the only time your character "opens" a door while still bound is when entering the keep, and then you're following an unbound person in, so they just... hold the door for you?

It would be nice if you could unbound yourself, and leave the fort without picking the Empire or Stormcloaks.
