Underrated games which you would recommend

Post » Fri Nov 15, 2013 2:34 am

Underrated - You think its good and it has received good reviews, but it didnt get the attention and sales it deserves because it wasnt released at the right time, or due to bad marketing, or perhaps its just not "mainstream", but the game itself is a solid fun experience. (in your opinion).

Im asking this because im looking to, uh, expand my game library :D I only have PC though, but forums are for everyone after all, so just post games on any platform.

I'll start with Metro 2033 (and Metro Last Light).

The game is generally a survival horror FPS, with hints of RPG elements involved like resource managing. It reminds me a lot of Bioshock 1+ Dishonored. It doesnt scare through jumpscares, but rather through atmosphere. Say you're traversing a dark tunnel filled with radioactive mushrooms when you hear the shrieking of mutants close by, as well as their footsteps in the pipes above you. You know they're coming (or at least you're expecting them), which puts you into an alert state for a while. And by being alert you can actually thwart the plans of the mutants who were trying to take a chunk out of your back :D The feeling is quite satisfying.

But anyway, I’ll leave the detailed anolysis to reviews on google. Hopefully some of you will get this unnoticed gem and enjoy it like I did  Its probably my top game of all time (which isnt saying much unfortunately, i've probably only "completed" 10 games; but nevertheless it was an exhilarating experience.)

Post your "diamond in the rough" games here!

I always recommend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_Thrones_%28video_game%29. The game isn't the best from a design point of view, but the story and dialogue of the two main characters you play as are so great I feel the games short comings can easily be ignored.

Way of the Samurai 3 is one of my favorite games of this console generation, and http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/way-of-the-samurai-3. It is a unpolished though.

http://youtu.be/iyx9D9yVAP8, on the PS2. It is somehow even more awesome than that video would lead you to believe. A highly customizable over the shoulder type of action game. Its also completely insane. Why more people havent played this, I'll never understand.

Hey, it looks like Dragon Age! :D The gamestyle. Bah, but wikipedia's telling me it has repetitive gameplay. But the plot-lover in me wants to get it. Perhaps i'll try it out. I presume there's magic involved? I do love blasting fireballs and such.

The STALKER series. Still is an amazing series today, and unfortunately a lot of people pass over it because its graphics aren't anything to get excited over.

Mmmmm, sort of. One of the characters is a Priest of R'hllor, so he has fire based abilities. I wouldn't say the GAMEPLAY is repetitive, it's just the battles aren't free for all brawls. They're more akin to traditional RPG stat based damage and the combat is more you picking an attack to use.
