unexpected acts of kindness..

I am fortunate enough to have a camp with a beautiful view of a river..

I went out there for the first time in awhile to just make sure everything is okay..

Now, when I arrived our rather large window facing the river had been broken in..
the Camp is in the middle of the woods near a small town, so kids break in every now and then, so its not overly surprising, but its an expensive window to replace so i was rather upset.

I enter and start doing an inventory of fishing supplies, food, etc.. only to find an envelope taped to one of the Kitchen Cupboards..

I opened it with curiosity..

in the envelope was a note:

"to the owner of this Cottage

we are deeply and truly sorry. we were canoeing down the river when a lightning storm hit. with no suitable terrain in the area to set up our tents, we were forced to break in your window and take shelter for the night..

upon leaving we took measurements of your window, and when we arrived back in town we immediately went and had a replacement window appraised.
In this envelope you will find the Money to replace your window, along with $500 for your trouble..
we also replaced any canned food we ate from your kitchen..

once again, we are truly sorry, and you have our best wishes, and our thanks"

I was shocked at these peoples honesty, and the fact after they got home they went through the trouble of getting back to my camp to reimburse me..

what are some random acts of kindness you have experienced?

That's very nice to hear

Always a pleasure to hear a little of the good happening around the world instead of the bad :touched:

I haven't seen much acts of kindness these days, but i'l make sure to help the next person I see in need.

saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsIOoXG_gmo today.

it's relevant.

I was at a bank once waiting in line, one ATM and there was an old woman using it, I am guessing in her 80s. He was talking money out but for some reason didn't take the money, she headed for the door which I held open for her. I went to use the machine and saw a $100 in $20 bills in the slot. So I picked them up and went after he in the parking lot. She was so surprised and a little embarrassed she had forgot to take the money. I said no problem and went back to the bank to use the machine.

Someone picked up some money (about $20) that fell out of my pocket while I was at Wal-Mart. He actually got out of line just to hand it to me. It's small things like that, that brighten up my day.

Kindness in terms of receiving that would be absofriggingluttely none, In terms of given though too many to count from raising orphaned starlings an hedgehogs to returning a stolen bike to its owner to tracking down the owner of a cat that was hit an later died outside my old flat to more all depends on what each person considers kindness and not just respect and good manners.

When I was a gullible little 7 year old I walked home with my friend from school, as we usually did. When we crossed a street a black rasta man called out to us saying, "Hey, get over here and I'll give you some money," and of course that sounded like the best thing ever. We made our way towards him, and then he came towards us with his hand stretched out. He proceeded by saying

Spoiler
"Here, take this money and go buy some candy," and he handed us some money and just left...

I remember I was canoeing by this lake once and it suddenly started storming, so I tried to put camp down for the night. Since the ground was so muddy, I couldn't find a good place to put my tent down. I felt like a dike doing this, but I ended up having to bash in the window of someone's cabin and spend the night there; it was the only way I could survive. I ate some of the canned food, which made me feel even worse.

Either way, my conscience was gnawing at me for a while, so I decided that I would measure the window and pay them back. I didn't feel good about it until I had given whoever the owner was 500 extra dollars, though.

Wonder whatever happened about that.

EDIT:

Spoiler
Seriously, though, when I was a teenager, my mom was laid off and unable to find work for two years, so we were pretty poor. Either way, we knew this awesome lawyer-in-training who I really looked up to. One day close to Christmas, she and her visiting mother approached my mom, gave her a hug and a handshake, and through that handshake given her a check for $1,000 to purchase Christmas presents that year for us. She and her mom knew that my mom would try to return it, so they ran away giggling afterward and said, "No givebacks!"

Whenever someone randomly does something kind to me I spend hours obsessing over what their motive was before ultimately concluding that they were secretly mocking me.
