Unique Character Marriage

Post » Tue Oct 30, 2012 10:05 am

So, even though I wasn't expecting the marriage to be in-depth, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't the option to marry any unique NPCs, all of the genuinely interesting NPCs like Karliah and Serana are apparently celibate and/or have commitment issues?

Also, what's up with not being able to marry Khajiit? I know it is a really trivial detail but I'm still interested to know what you guys think.

I think it comes down to their voice actors in some way.

Maybe Tod doesn't like cats or lizards? The Serana issue still ticks me off.

As Khajiit, I am very pissed. We are all pissed. We are so pissed, we may capture Todd and forcefully addict him to Skooma before abruptly cutting his supply.

They might have avoided doing marry-able unique NPC's due to the fact that they would be extremely popular over the regular ones. I mean if they made Serana and Karliah marriage options, then the other options would be chosen less, if at all considered.

That decision should be left up tothe player, not the devs. And who in their right minds would actually want to marry Karliah? Just imagine that raspy voice..."Hello my love, back from some adventure I bet."

From an Orc, Argonian or Khajiit, I can take the voice if I'm an Argonian, Orc or Khajiit. But from a Dark Elf? How about no.

Breylina has a wonderful voice.

And this would... what? Make the other less unique collections of pixels and audio files feel neglected and unloved? :P

I think it may have more to do with the fact that so many of the uniquely voiced NPCs play significant roles in major questlines, and marrying them might tend to mess with scripted behavior that is required for those questlines. Altho they solved that problem with the Companions by making none of them available as marriage prospects until after their whole questline is finished. I suppose they could've done the same with Karliah, Serana, Ulfric, Brynjolf, etc. but that would've required them to record the unique VA necessary for it to work. Maybe the marriage thing was worked in after all that VA was already completed. Either that or they just wanted to toy with us by making so many of the more interesting NPCs completely unavailable. :swear: :P

Marraige is a tacked-on function. Like Dual-Weilding.

gamesas went for quantity over quality. They gave us something like 50 choices, and the process is extremely shallow. At least 3 of the options will marry you if you beat them in fisticuffs. Others have you doing them a favor, like helping chop wood or farm their fields. And some, I kid you not, have this kind of interaction:

"Hey, you a merc?"
"Yep."
"Cool. Can I hire you?"
"500 gold."
"Done. Wanna get married?"
"YOU BET!"

Really... the whole thing is a sad affair, and it makes me wonder if the devs are secretly saying "Hey, let's impliment these things our fans want badly so they'll stop asking!"

To each his own I guess. I am still put off by the whole
"Give your soul and be a Nightingale to defeat Mercer"

Me: Is that really the only way? He's that strong?
Her:Yes
Me: Fine, I agree.
Her: Here, put these on. You wont get your powers til after he's dead.
Me: Then why did I sell my soul?
Her: Uh, good luck? *Troll Face*

Then you don't know Dark Elves they are suppose to have dark raspy voices. That's the big reason I hate the male voices the female ones in game aren't too bad.

But that was due to the ash in the air when they were in Morrowind. Its been like 200 years since they left, right?

It kind of seems that your problem isn't with Karliah but with the guild's quest-line in general.

But if that were the case why would the female Dunmer keep their voice type and the males voice change?

Isn't the reason why you can't marry Karliah is because she's still in love with the last guildmaster? Anywho, I just want to marry the bosmer that owns the drunken huntsman.
