"Unlock" Spells for Alteration.

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 12:07 pm

I don't have the knowledge or the tools to make a mod like this. However it would be nice if someone else could make them. I doubt it would be very hard to script a set of spells that unlocks doors.

Despite how amazing Midas' mods are, I will be making an unlock spells mod when the CK is out. I could use SkyEdit but I'd prefer to wait for the CK.

Lol, funny thing is, there is already an open lock spell in game, type in..... PSB .....in the console to unlock all the spells, and it is listed in there as an expert lvl spell. But there is no way to legitimately learn it in game.

Hmmm... so it doesn't OP Alteration... Make it available only at Adept or above.

Adept level spell unlocks novice and apprentice locks, Expert unlocks Adept and Expert level locks, while Master-level does Master locks

If the spell is already ingame, you should be able to locate the spell id's and use player.addspell xxxxxxx to get the spell. I might have the console code wrong.

How does the midas one works ?

I would love to see an unlock spell working like one of his "beam" spells. And the tougher the lock is, the longer you need to maintain the beam on the container/door for the magic to to its work. Of course, if you don't have silent casting, you'd better be prepared if a patrol comes by while you're maintaining that unlocking beam on the chest !

Also, using mana consumption, it could be a way to balance how a beginner mage could not have enough mana to maintain the beam long enough to open the higher locks, but as he levels and increases his mana pool, the beam can be maintained longer and open tougher locks. Could even be perks that make it easier or reduce the mana consumption of this (in alteration).

As for the range, I suppose it could be limited directly, or by making the distance affect the time needed for unlocking, with a thresold like after 5/10 meters distance, there is 0% of unlocking going on...

OR,

it could be based on telekinetic capabilities, but in the same fashion : you would need to maintain the telekinetic spell on the container long enough to open the lock this way.

I would love to see a similar implementation for an unlock spell...

Unseal door is used in a quest for the Bard's college by an NPC. I don't see any "Unlock" spell.

That's all I can see too. That's the only spell even vaguely related to unlocking doors.

Precisely like the unlock spells in Oblivion. A novice spell for novice locks, an apprentice spell for apprentice locks, et cetera.

Yeah, it's a cast on self spell. Then when you activate a locked door a menu pops up and asks if you want to unlock via the spell or pick the lock yourself. So not exactly like it.

Woops. Yeah, I never bothered to use any of the spells, because an argonian picks locks, even as an arch-mage :V
