Unofficial 0x10c Discussion Thread

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 6:01 am

So Notch has just announced his new game, that isn't Scrolls (or The Elder Scrolls), and it is called 0x10c. It is a space adventure/rpg type game set in the ridiculous future and will most likely be a lite MMO with a small monthly fee.

Here is the website for the game: http://0x10c.com/

My first response to this is: Shut up and take my money.

If possible, I'm pretty sure the http://tesfan.mchost.org/index.php?p=/ Team will run a server for it. We'll at least host a section for it and play the game, that is for sure.

What are your thoughts on this and are you already scraping together loose change to buy this thing?

That sounds... interesting. I want to know more about the gameplay though. It sounds a bit like there would be a lot of grinding and stat chewing. The story premise sounds a lot like Red Dwarf: sleeping for countless years, a dying universe filled with the debris from past ages, and spaceships that use early 90s technology (I'm thinking of the 23rd century Lister's use of VHS tapes).

I still think it should be called Mars Effect though. Also I can never decide if Notch is a genius or an idiot. Even with Minecraft, and his huge success, it feels like he might have made it great accidentally.

I just thought the title got bugged.

Looks interesting, but I won't be partaking if it turns out to be a periodic subscription model.

Oops, I just posted a thread on this game. My mistake, I'll just ask a mod to close it. :)

Yeah, Notch should try and get sued by another company

I think we can judge whether he's a genius or just lucky by the success of this game.

I love hard science fiction, and what I've read and seen about this game looks incredible.

But a monthly fee will ensure that I'm not involved. If a single player option is added that doesn't require the subscription service I'll happily reconsider.

EDIT: Apparently single-player doesn't have a monthly fee. I'm not sure if I somehow missed that when I first checked out that site or if it was added later.

Monthly fee?

No way. I MIGHT pay a monthly fee for GW2 if for some awful reason it was introduced(that's a BIG "might"), and I sure as hell won't pay one for this game. Sorry Notch, but the days of subscription-based games are gone and I suspect a LOT of people who would otherwise be drooling at this aren't interested because of the fee.

From the site it appears to me there's singleplayer without the subscription fees, at least.

Spoiler
says the guy that takes an hour to respond

Edit: if it is like eve (in which you gain levels and experience by time passing by, but not by activly playing the game) then you can count me out, simply because i will most likely forget i was playing the game in the first place.

That's the funny thing, I know I saw a screenshot from this before it was announced - it was an example of the in-game screens with text on them. I can't remember where I saw it, I thought it was Joystiq but I just skimmed them and couldn't find anything.

The way it looks now it seems it will be significantly less casual-friendly than Minecraft.
