Unofficial Guild Wars 2 thread

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 11:24 pm

A thread for the discussion of the upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2.

The combat and deep character customization is really what has caught my attention so far, the Thief skills video in particular is impressive.

Yeah I'm getting it. When does it release? Maybe we could get a BGSF Guild going or something.

This is what their FAQ says
When is Guild Wars 2 going to be released?
When it's finished. Guild Wars 2 is the largest project ArenaNet? has ever undertaken, and we want to make sure we take the time to do it right.

But I'm guessing sometime in 2012.

And a BGSF guild would be pretty cool indeed.

Probably, lots of games are planned to release early 2012.

I am in favor of a BGSF guild as well, would be able to get more people into this game than SWTOR, sense there is no monthly fee.

I'm looking forward to it, as I've said in all the GW 2 threads. I've been playing the original one since the release just about. Depending on how many of my friends come over from the original I may or may not join a BGSF guild. Also I'm expecting an early 2012 release...2nd quarter or so.

I've been playing GW for a year. GW 2 is going to be great, because it will be a persistent world. For example, if centaurs take over a town it will stay occupied until players kick them out, and if no one does, there will be more quests branching off from that. This is in contrast to GW, where the game reset every time you left a zone.

Surprised no one has bumped this thread because of comic con. Anyways there is a slew of new videos out and some other stuff. Gonna link to another forum that has all the videos.

Nice find!

I usually tune out until Quake Con after E3 is over so Comic Con often goes under my radar. :sadvaultboy:

I'm curious in terms of lore what race everybody is leaning towards.

I am going with the Humans, something I rarely do in an MMO. The Humans in this game are a lot more relevant to me than those of most MMOs.

The races I am least fond of right now are the Charr and Asura, more so the Asura than the Charr.

Asura seem to be a lot like the Altmer, arrogant and sure that they are intellectually superiour in every way compared to other races.

And the Charr wage war for the sake of war, I also don't like playing as beast folk.

I'm going to make one of each race to reserve my names, but I'll play either a human guardian or Asura elementalist, maybe Charr engineer.

I recently picked up the original Guild Wars so I'm currently playing through that at the moment, and the sequel looks pretty cool so I'll probably pick it up at some point too.

I'll play as Human, not sure on class yet, either a Warrior, Thief or Engineer, because I want to use guns... pew pew.

It will be interesting to find out how many slots we're given for characters. Currently I have 8, with GW; I think we'll be given 4-6 slots in GW 2. I'll have a human character, a Norn, and a Sylvari. Not every day you get to play a shapeshifting giant.

This game looks incredible. Everything I've seen and heard about it so far makes WoW and other MMOs look bad in comparison. Better graphics, no loot stealing or ninja mob tagging, better designed and less cluttered UI, better PvP system, better mechanics for maintaining a sense of community... oh and NO MONTHLY FEE. Hell yeah I'm buying it.

I hate to bump two month-old threads in as many days, but has anyone seen the GamesCom videos of GW2 yet? It looks absolutely incredible from top to bottom. Even the starting zones blow everything I've ever seen from other MMOs out of the water.

See for yourself:

I think I've found my new MMO to replace WoW.

The official GW2 site says that they're going to make the game friendly for alt-aholics, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had 8 or more character slots.
