What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines.
The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people and chat, TeamSpeak has also been implemented for both servers.

Colored Titles Explained:

Purple = Admin [Aedra]
Green= Moderator [Mod]
Yellow = Donator [Jarl]
Grey = Default [Citizen]

The cost of the new server is $75 monthly, due by the 6th of each month. Some really awesome people help support the costs each month. You can be awesome too: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=F9AK9VK9NYXD4&lc=US&item_name=TESFan%20Server¤cy_code=USD&bn=PP-DonationsBF%3abtn_donateCC_LG.gif%3aNonHosted
Donators who use the same email address with paypal as is registered with the forum will become 'supporters' as labled on the forums and in game, automatically. Those who don't want to use the same email can simply contact mrtankjump with the details of your transaction and I will make it happen.

Due to an increase in donations, we can consider upgrading memory for another $25 monthly. This would give us 16GB total, and each server would be running on a ramdisk. Bar any network issues, chunk loading should be instant when on ramdisk. Let me know what y'all think, as long as the money can be put up for it each month, and it is something the community wants, I'll make it happen.

Chivrii

How about now?
Still sounds Welsh to me.

Google Translate. Tell it to translate phonetically and it will give you the Japanese words in Engish text:

http://translate.google.com/#en%7Cja%7C

For example, our town sits in the west. "West Town" in Japanese would apparently be "Nishimachi". "Turns Town" would be "Machiomawasu". etc...

The rule of thumb to "sounding Japanese" is simple: If you can construct it using just the standard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana#Table_of_hiragana (which means: excluding oddball stuff like "wi", "we" and "wo" - "wa" is fine, but it's usually written with the "ha" Hiragana - and also if possible "vu"), you should be ok.

"Chivrii" you can't ("Chivurii" you could, using "vu" however) construct as such, so it has no chance sounding Japanese.

Nishimachi sounds quite good, I like.

Good because I like Arvra, and hope no one ever needs to use it <3

Translate gives it as the Turkish form of the name "Kyoko". Urban dictionary gives it as... something else.

I still say go with Hokkaido. It'd make sense too since your town is on the sea.

Call it Akushu, it means something really mundane in Japanese and doesn't sound too bad.

Or, use the literal translations of "mine" and/or "craft", respectively: Kōzan Kurafuto. I also like the clearly anglicized Japanification of "cube": Kyūbu.

(I'm going to have to trust Google Translate on that.)

PS: I'm unsure whether Ratwar was the spark, or whether Turns (or Undone) just went nuts, but that town really is filling out veeeery nicely now.

Possibly a combination. Quite a few people have been building this last week.

Would work well, "-kon" is a variant spelling of the "port, harbour" Kanji (the other is "-ko"). Hong Kong is spelled "Honkon" in Japanese, for examplle. Other often used ending is "-shima" (島), meaning "island" (Hiroshima, Fukushima and so on).

And then things get even more hilarious.

Right, having looked at the dynmap, I'd like to provisionally earmark the area at -3000, 300 for Vivec. It's a pretty expansive ocean, with at least one desert biome nearby. If we go ahead with this location, I'd like to also develop Hlaalu style farmsteads on the island just to the East, and develop a small Hlaalu section to Japtown on the Western coast.

Thoughts?

Seems reasonable. I'm not sure how much a Hlaalu area of Japantown would fit in though, but there's a lot of space on that island.

I'll probably be building at Justin's town for a while, I'm taking a break from building things out of snow and pine.

I'd stay away from Japanland, they have a very specific aesthetic in that area and building a monolithic floating building or Hlaalu houses might spoil it, not because Vivec looks bad, but because the styles would clash.
Also I'd make a poll on the other forum and try to gauge how much help you can expect from other players. You might know already but if you don't it might be a good idea, no sense starting a massive project at a time when everybody is busy with other things.

My intention was for Japland to be open to different architectural styles, with the "city" sectioned off into different thematic regions. That said, I like the way the town's developing just now.

Between Japland, my pyramid (largely on hold while I accrue gold) and Vivec, that should be enough to keep me busy. I don't expect Vivec to go up in a week, but if we can get one canton fully developed I'll be happy.

I like having a variety of jobs on the go :P

I think the fate of Japland should be up to Turns as he has put the most effort into it.

I don't mind, i really only did the earlier buildings. A lot of people are working on it now. I'm not sure how much desire there is to expand further right now. But I think if it's building from different ends of the island, a more gradual transition won't look so odd.

Looking at the map again, it might be better to go for the Hlaalu village to the Southeast of the farmstead island (due South of Japland). This would allow the two towns to maintain distinct architectural styles and close geographical proximity. The land there seems flat and good for building on too. No need to get cramped.
