We should build an alt map with no build perms on defaults that is a giant prison where we could go /jail name cell1 and so on, and they have their own special cells to stay nice and quiet in.

Just so people know I am now a guard. I finished the last of my exams today so I'll be around even more than usual and can keep an eye on the server during the day. We have times when our admin is at work and no mods are around, like yesterday's break-in so more guards is a neccesary precaution. If I'm online and there are intruders that need to be banned then you can message me over steam. I'll become a citizen again once Tank or Bone returns.

Frankly I don't see why we need to un-guard people. Even if their sole duty is to ban obvious griefers when they come on, that's a useful ability to have.

the only must have mod for me (i assume you meant for single player) is treecapitator. it causes all the logs to fall down when you chop down the trunk of the trees instead of them floating in the air. There once was a time in which i felt it was cheating but not really any more, sense its actually more realistic but thats not the point.

Is there a mod that takes all the wood/leaf blocks above the one you cut and rotate them 90 degrees and plunk them on the ground still as a contiguous piece? That'd be more realistic...

Right now the only mod I'd consider a personal must is Redpower, both for its aesthetic introduction of new blocks and ores, and for the additional power and flexibility it gives to tinkerers that want a more dynamic world. 95% of the time in single-player, though, I play mod-free and find it perfectly balanced still.

Also, I forgot a few good ones from Direwolf20 videos (and our server play, in some cases)

-Inventory Tweaks (not fun, but just useful for sorting your chests and inventory)
-Iron chests AND/OR Ender Storage, to bring more useful ways to store your goodies.
-Thaumcraft - This essentially adds magic to the game, in a deep, well-thought out manner. RPG-like in its content and integration. Like Redpower, it's a bit of a mega-mod.

Whitelisting no longer works. We either need a way to barricade spawn, or a way to block new players.

I will keep that in mind. I will first try the game as is and if I realized that the default "floating" wood blocks gets annoying than I will definitely download this mod. Btw, is the MP gameplay about killing other players or just about constructing things with other players. It seems that Minecraft is a very unique game and I get the feeling the MP will be different from other MP games.

Well it varies. Some servers are proper PvP servers, others like ours tend to be more about competitive or collaborative building, with casual PvP elements sometimes.
