Unofficial Pokemon Thread

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:25 pm

This thread is for the discussion of the Polemon games and anime. Please follow the forum rules and do not go off topic. If you do not like pokemon, you are welcome to post it, just say why. One thing, does anyone know why they haven't shown team plasma in the show yet?

Gah, are the old threads gone again?

Are we ever going to have a tournament like was promised waaaay back when? I swear that thing would pick up only to die a week later.

They probably haven't had team plasma yet because the whole 'defeat team x' formula is a bit stale so they're doing some other stuff; they haven't even had a whole lot of team rocket shenanigans. Then again I haven't been following the show so maybe I'm just missing it.

I'd buy a 3DS and the game if it brings back the HG/SS menu system (where your menu is always opened below, toggle running shoes, and other things)

HG/SS had the best menu of any pokemon game to date, I was so mad to find C-Gear hogging the bottom screen by default and it not toggling to the menu screen when I disabled it.

I don't think I've completed a Pokemon game since Red. The whole formula of catching and training a team (i.e. cleverly disguised grinding) just doesn't hold my attention anymore.

I've completed Red, Crystal, and almost completed Sapphire. I like playing them, but rarely do I complete them (usually restart after the 4th badge)

The ones I made the least progress in were FR/LG (didn't even get a badge) and B/W (never got the second badge)

Oh yeah, it's not that I don't play the new ones. I've played Red, Blue, Yellow, Crystal, Leaf Green, Ruby, Diamond, and Black (and Pokemon Pinball )... but not since Red have I ever gotten to the Elite Four.

It doesn't seem like Nintendo really adds much to each game, besides a new roster of increasingly weird Pokemon.

I've owned every handheld pokemon game (including Pinball as well :foodndrink:). I still have them all except Yellow and Pinball (washing machine + game cartridge = T__T )

I agree not much is added to the game's single player through the generations, but competitive play has really changed. It's a shame the tournaments are full of enough metagaming in team training it makes me want to vomit. Still, VS against a friend is fun.

Main reason for not getting far in B/W was the menu setup changed. The menu was so elegant in HG/SS that it was a huge turnoff to not have the menu on the touch screen always accessible. I just found myself yearning for more HG/SS. If it wasn't for me having lost my copy of SS for a while, it may be nearing completion (at least of the Johto side).

I agree. I think that black and white kind of svcked. Especially with the whole gain less experience points for weaker pokemon. It made leveling annoying.

Huh, maybe that's why I'm not so fond of the games. I'm not a big competitive gamer anymore.
