This mod is an effort to fix the vast amount of bugs currently existing in Skyrim. If you're experiencing a bug with Skyrim, please report the bug to us in as much detail as possible on http://bugzilla.darkcreations.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Unofficial%20Skyrim%20Patch%20%28USKP%29. Please use search to ensure that you aren't submitting something that is already there. There are conglomerate entries for object placement (if it doesn't affect gameplay), text errors, and inappropriate dialog (again, that doesn't affect quests or other gameplay) so please use those entries if that's what you're reporting. Please also confirm that the bug you are reporting happens with no mods other than the unofficial patches installed. A lot of Skyrim bugs are actually the result of other mods doing things they're not supposed to. Thank you and we hope you have a better Skyrim experience!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: "Will the USKP be fixing the hi-res texture DLC?"
A: Not directly, no. If it gets done by the project at all, it would be a separate fix so that those who don't use it won't get stuck with fixes for it they don't want. In the meantime, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8236 out that addresses this nicely.

Q: "How come {my unfavorite bug} isn't fixed yet?"
A: It's just getting started. This is now when the subtle and devious quest bugs are coming out of the woodwork, so expect many of those to get fixed soon. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch including the Shivering Isles and DLCs took over three years to get to a near-complete state. I expect this will take about two.

Q: "Will the USKP be an ESM file?"
A: No. At this time, there is no reason for the USKP to be issued as an ESM fle. If this changes in the future, we will let you know.

Q: "What other fix mods does the USKP replace?"
A: You can find an ongoing list http://bugzilla.darkcreations.org/show_bug.cgi?id=410. An attached ODT file (use Libre Office or Microsoft Excel to view it) contains the information from 16bugs. Any new stuff will go into Bugzilla's comments and we'll figure out some way to mark this stuff as obsolete. It's unlikely we'd simply take these fixes as-is since most of them predate the CK by several weeks.

Q: "What if Bethesda Softworks fixes something the USKP already does?"
A: Then, if it's fixed completely, the change will be removed from the USKP.

Q: "How can I get the USKP?"
A: When it's released, it will be posted (at least) on Steam Workshop, Skyrim Nexus, TES Alliance, and Dark Creations. Perhaps on other places as well. While in Beta, it's just at Dark Creations.

Q: "Will any text fixes appear in English in my non-English Skyrim?"
A: Unfortunately, yes. Editing the Strings resource files can be done to cause text fixes to only show on the English version of Skyrim, but as these are original resource files, Steam will end up replacing them with the original unmodified ones without asking. The only way I know of to keep the changes is hard-code them in the ESP. Please advise if there's another Strings-based method as I would definitely use it, or if there are translations of the USKP available anywhere. http://www.elderscrolls.net/conference/index.php?act=ST&f=82&t=5303&st=0.

Q: "Are the scripting source .PSC files included?"
A: Yes, they're packed in Unofficial Skyrim Patch.bsa along with all the other USKP resources. You can use Archive.exe in your main Skyrim folder to browse and extract files from it.

Q: "Why do you include the useless file 'Unofficial Skyrim Patch.bsl' with the BSA version of the USKP?"
A: It actually has a use: without it, if you open Unofficial Skyrim Patch.bsa with the official Bethesda BSA utility Archive.exe (in your Skyrim main folder) the filenames will all turn into gibberish. Third-party BSA utilities still display the proper filenames, but as I want to support the official toolset, I'll include the file so Archive.exe will be able to unpack the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.bsa properly.

Known/Possible Issues
  • The USKP (and other mods) can sometimes cause Skyrim to crash when quitting to the main menu (Esc menu -&--#62; Quit -&--#62; Main Menu). This doesn't cause any problems as the player was quitting anyways and can just relaunch (which is a better idea than reloading in-game anyways as it ensures that leftover session data is cleared) but it still shouldn't happen. It's probably caused by the engine cleaning up the active session and finding data it doesn't like.
  • The USKP (and other mods) may cause temporary missing statics (walls, floors) in interiors if more than one mod is active; it has never been observed with just one, and may occur in cells that neither mod even touch. This also seems to be an engine problem with layering. Usually, quitting and reloading will resolve the problem. Currently, its cause is unknown.

USKP Fixes
  • The quest built to deal with the essential civil war camp soldiers was not configured properly. The script intended to attach to aliases for Tullius and Ulfric was never attached because the aliases had never been created in the proper place. This should now be corrected and this quest will be started again if it's not already running.
  • Two backup reference alias properties were somehow lost for DialogueFalkreath and DialogueDragonBridge and have been repaired.
  • Removed the optimization fix for the house door scripts. Seems people will just have to live with them not working since fixing them apparently didn't work any better.
  • The BSA file is now being compressed due to its growing size. Blame Steam.
  • The fix for Louis Letrush has been removed. It has now been fixed officially in Patch 1.8.
  • Generated an SEQ file, which will be maintained as needed for future updates. This file ensures the start-enabled retroactive fix scripts will be processed properly.
Script Fixes
  • Some more scripts that issue unnecessary debug traces have been silenced.
  • SoundTrap.psc, TripWire.psc, PhysicsTrap.psc, MagicTrap.psc, and MaceTrap.psc were all incorrectly using OnCellAttach() to handle a function call requiring the object's 3D to be loaded. They instead need to use OnLoad() for this and have been corrected. This may result in a large number of previously dormant trap objects suddenly being more effective.
  • StockadeBarricade01ActivatorScript.psc did not properly validate whether its linked reference was valid or not before trying to enable it.
Game Mechanics Fixes
  • A faulty road encounter trigger in Falkreath Hold (0008F4AA) has been corrected. It was missing the RoadStart keyword property necessary for the script to work.
  • Having the Deep Freeze, Intense Flames, or Disintegrate perks will no longer cause your cloak spells to kill followers who are in bleedout.
  • Necromage no longer boosts the power of spells and enchantments used on a vampire player.
  • Corrected a bunch of MS06 pre-quest packages with invalid conditions.
  • Combat music would sometimes not play if the player's armor ratings were too high.
  • The Tower of Strength perk had further defects which were still preventing it from applying the actual benefits described.
Quest Fixes
  • FreeformRiften02 will no longer fail on Lynly’s death (there was dialogue where Sibbi thanked the player for killing her, but the quest always failed and stopped on her death thanks to the defaultsetstagealias script attached to her alias)
NPC/Creature Fixes
  • Lynly Star-Sung now has black hair to comply with the description of her given by Sibbi Black-Briar.
  • Sybille Stentor, Hert, and Hern, being vampires, now drop vampire dust when they die.
  • Imperial Soldiers and Penitus Oculatus agents who wear light armor will no longer use heavy Imperial shields.
  • AstridEnd has been tweaked to better resemble her non-horribly-burnt self (eye color matched to Astrid, eyes, nose, lips matched to Astrid, weight matched to Astrid).
  • Galmar Stone-Fist will now be classified as a CombatBarbarian class to better suit his choice of weapons and armor. He also now correctly gets the 500 health boost Legate Rikke gets.
  • Enthir will now properly fence goods after progressing the Thieves Guild quest line to activate him as a fence. His proper inventory will also be available.
  • Aringoth was incorrectly flagged as an Altmer. In game dialogue tells the player he is a Bosmer.
  • Aventus Aretino lacked AI packages to send him back to Honorhall Orphanage like he was supposed to be. (Bugzilla #5054)
Item Fixes
  • Mjoll the Lioness is a two-handed warrior, but her favorite sword, Grimsever, is a one-handed glass sword. Rather than change Mjoll into a one-handed warrior (her combat style and perks show she was definitely intended to be two-handed), Grimsever is now a two-handed sword.
  • The original fix for changing Apple Pie to Meat Pie has been reverted. In its place, a new Meat Pie object has been created with a new texture and used to replace the two instances at the Bards College where they were specifically referred to as Meat Pie. This was done to fix an inconsistencty with the Hearthfire DLC which solidified the original item as being intentionally called Apple Pie. The new meat pies have also been added to the leveled lists that publicans use to sell food at the inns.
NIF Mesh and Texture Fixes
  • The male and female 1st person Blades armor had some clipping issues which are now fixed. (Bugzilla #5671)
  • Missing scabbards for the Blades sword, Dwarven sword, Dawnbreaker, and the Nightingale blade have been corrected.
  • The roof texture for the city of Whiterun had a visible line through it which has been corrected.
Placement/Layout/Ownership and other World Object Fixes
  • Previous fix for the entrance to The Midden has been updated to blend in better. (Bugzilla #5438)
