Unproven IPdeveloper. 60 dollars on PC?

Post » Sun Sep 30, 2012 4:58 pm

They're putting a lot of faith that people will blindly purchase a game based on the cool premise. I however won't be, and will wait until it's 35 or less. I may have given it a shot at 50 dollars preordered, but 20% extra for a new IP from an unproven developer for a PC game?

Come on now, even Bioshock 2, sequel to one of the greatest games of all time, was only 44.99 on steam. Yet you're not even offering the pitiful 10% discount on steam at 60 dollar price tag?

I am disappoint.

I like to think that I've done more than read the premise, then blindly pre-ordered it. Dishonored is one of the few original AAA IP's coming out this year and seems to actually be trying to move the industry forward, so I don't regret pre-purchase. Plus I think the team has proven themselves in the past, and I'm glad to see their talents being supported.

Bioshock 2 wasn't that good in the first place, I don't know about you but I think this is amazing and I'm getting the game as soon as possible as I don't want to miss a possibly epic game over an unrequired 10% discount.

1) I wouldn't call Arkane Studios "unproven," especially as a PC developer.

2) You can pre-purchase Dishonored from Greenman Gaming (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/action/dishonored-na/) for $48 until October 1st with the code GMG20-27J4Z-8NXHO. The key activates on Steam.

Hitman Absolution is only $50 AND recieves the 10% discount on steam for preorders.
proven IP, by proven developers.

All i have to do is wait about 2 more months for a guaranteed hit

While i will admit Dishonored has some fantastic potential, it's still the wild card among IPs

PC gamers don't appreciate the price tag increase, we'll pay it for proven success definitely, But a New IP with.

Bioshock 2 wasn't that good in the first place, I don't know about you but I think this is amazing and I'm getting the game as soon as possible discount.

Bioshock 2 had level design by arkane studios, the guys who made this game.

You're giving into overhyped promises. Having been burned far too many times lately i'm definitely a little more cautious.

The discount shows at least some solidarity for PC gamers, PC game development don't have additional fees to drive the prices up like console games do, so we shouldn't be penalized for the sins of the consolers.

My hopes are high for this game, but i simply won't preorder an unproven experience simply because they market it well anymore.

Now, if they provided a PC Demo, (They have already stated that the game is finished) Then well, some concerns may be alleviated.

I think that Arkane has proven, that they can create brilliant games.

And it really doesn't matter, since most people seem to blatantly ignore the "Arkane" logo, and only see "Bethesda"

As a primarily PC gamer, I'm not a fan of the price increase some publishers are starting to push on us either, but as I posted above, you can still get get Dishonored right now for $48 from GMG, so what's the issue with your purchase in that regard?

As for IO, how are they any more proven than Arkane? They've made a few successful Hitman games, but they've also bombed with the Kane & Lynch games. Arkane and the people who work there have made and worked on successful projects before as well. What makes them unproven?

Well there you go then  . You're welcome.

With a game like this that actually dares to deviate from the typical new releases we see every year, I really want it to be commercially successful. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the triple-A shooters and action games just as much as other people, and I know games like Dishonored will never be the most mainstream, but it's still good to show support for developers and publishers that take the risk of putting out more unique, niche products. I'm hoping that with Dishonored, it can prove that the stealth genre is still desirable to a good portion of gamers, and that it can still be successful in the modern market.

Unproven? In what way? Harvey Smith was behind the original two Deus Ex Games, Thief, and System Shock. Colantonio was involved in Arx Fatalis, Bioshock 2, and Dark Mesiah of Might and Magic. Art director Victor Antonov worked on Half Life 2.

Devs from arkane have worked on numerous other games including those listed above.

On top of that Dishonored has proven itself for the most part already. Over 50 awards at E3, Game of show at Gamescom, high praise from just about every previewer to get hands on time with it.

This dev team and Dishonored itself are far from unproven.

Have people not bought any games recently? The $60 price point is here to stay.

Oh, and I haven't played any Hitman games, so I'm going with the game without the nuns in bikinis.
