Unresponsive Keys

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 10:09 am

I think it's all related to the same bug. They certainly messed up the keys somehow.

I get the bug with Cowboy Repeater and the .357 Magnum controls not responding after reloading. They don't fire, don'T zoom, can't holster them and do anything else related to the weapon. I can't even switch the weapon or enter the pipboy menu/Vats. It's horrible. Also I get a bug whenever I try to apply a Doctor's Bag to my crippled limb it will apply more of the Doctor's Bag when I bind the pipboy key to screen down button. When I try to bind the pipboy to the screen up button, RadX will be applied as long as I'm in the stats menu.

Sometimes the pipboy button won't respond, sometimes it's the use button that doesn't respond. I don't know what they did with that last patch, but it's starting to get hilarious.

What specially makes me angry, is, they've stated in the patch description the bug with cowboy repeater has been fixed. And now ALL the buttons are bugged.

Is this what they name a innovative way of fixing bugs? Where's the quickfix for the quickfix of the recent patch?

I can also confirm that I had almost no problems pre-patch but now post-patch it's starting t get annoying...what the hell did you do guys?

Well it seems that I'm not the only one with this problem. Has anyone found a fix or does anyone know where to go to contact customer support? Maybe if they get enough emails they'll put out another patch.

I've played with bugs in Oblivion or Fallout 3 before but it svcks being stuck in the sewer and unable to fire. So far I noticed that I only get the problems around enemies and underground but this may occur outside too.

I just started getting this bug Thursday, after the last patch. I was fine before that. Kinda [censored].

I don't know if the following problem is related...

Using G15, G13, MX518 in Win 7 Pro x64:

I will randomly completely loose connection to the G13, no keypresses work on it but the G15 still works properly although I have no custom mapping for FNV on the G15.

At the same time my mouse will loose it's custom setup for FNV and revert to standard Windows desktop settings. What I mean is that in Setpoint I have set custom mouse button mapping for FNV and I will loose those settings.

This does seem to be a USB problem but I don't know how a game could possibly mess up the USB especially in Win 7.

This problem, loosing custom keyboard and mouse mapping, would happen if the mouse and keyboard drivers stopped recognizing that FNV was running. I don't know how a game could do that unless something really bad happened in the game code which screwed up the Windows OS itself (I'm thinking that's what happened).

I'm thinking that the animation thing is the source of the problem though.

So do we know if this affects everybody? Are there people who can play just fine now after the patch with the keys not getting fubared? If there are then maybe I should try updating my drivers or something. If it's everybody then I won't bother.

Sure there are alwas people that can play without problems. My game was perfectly fine before the latest patch. I wouldn't do anything if the game worked pre patch. Just wait until they release the hotfix for the hotfix patch.

It's NOT there computers. It's since the patch. I was fine before the patch. Now I get this too.

 I thought it may be since I patched, as the game was fine before. I get it it when I'm reloading Lucky or a normal .357 Magnum. It reloads but I can't aim and can't holster it. The only way out is to open/close my Pipboy then it unfreezes.
I don't use VATS much at all so haven't noticed it with that.

I believe I have some kind of problem too, but I'm not sure if it is the same one you guys are talking about.

Until know I only get this bug when using the .357 Magnum, every time I aim down the sights and fire my gun gets stuck in ironsight.
There's only 1 way to get rid of this bug and that is to holster the weapon and re-equip it. Please note that while it's stuck in ironsight I'm unable to shoot (haven't checked for VATS or Pipboy yet)

Also weird about this bug is, when I go to 3rd Person view, my character kinda behaves like he is falling in mid-air (we've all seen the npc's get stuck in this, I believe .. waving arms and kicking feets while hovering a bit above the ground) but he's really on the ground actually ...

This really svcks because that Magnum is the gun I like the most in the game (up until know :P)

This might have been mentioned, but I solved my keyboard problems by yanking my USB and plugging in my old classic.

This bug happens with any weapon that uses the single shot reload animation, rifles and shotguns. After reloading, the Pip Boy key and mouse buttons will randomly become unresponsive for a few seconds, although you can still move and look around. It's a bit of a nasty hazard in combat! I also get the VATs key feezing bug occasionally, but that was present in Fallout 3 - introduced with Mothersip Zeta, I think.

Listen to the guy above cuz he knows what he's talking about. It is a bug and there is a mod on Nexus that fixes it and it is called ReloadBugFix.esp.

Just started for me pretty much as described above. After approx. 5 minutes playing certain keys quit working. I think the problem is deeper tho as I entered vats once and the game never fired my weapon. Just sat there watching an ant eat me.

Having this problem as well, the game has become unplayable for me due to the frequent occurrence of this bug.

Its not the PC I have formatted, secure erased (0-filled) all hard disks, tore the raid drive apart and built it back with several stripe sizes, updated firmware and drivers for everything, and installed a fresh copy of win 7 64. I made a topic about this several days ago.

thats interesting. Ill lose my G19 display from time to time. my mouse (Rat7) will lock up sometimes when the game crashes, it forgets about the settings I have so I have to go back and fix it, i sometimes also lose G35 sound. All these things are connected by USB, never really put 2 and 2 together, sounds like a promising lead. Never had these problems before, but it could be because the game locks up the comp and that causes the random USB device to drop.

Add me to the list, but I am quite certain that it is NOT related to the Reload animation.

I mainly am using the Varmint Rifle with expanded (11 rounds) magazine. I'll be tooling around using the WASD keys and wander into a combat. THAT is when I discover that the "V" key will _not_ bring up VATS. Nor will Tab bring up the PipBoy. And later when I'm intent on looting corpses (after a mouse-controlled gunfight), "E" will _not_ open the Loot panel.

If I Save at that point and then quit out of the game and start a new session, after I've Loaded the game, the several keys still do NOT function. Nor does rebooting the PC reset the key functions. Oddly, what **does** seem to work is to QuickSave (F5) the key-frozen game, and then to Load the QuickSave. Does NOT require quitting the game or rebooting the PC.

Windows XP (SP3)
Intel Core 2 Quad CPUs @2.33 GHz (4 CPUs)
4 Gb RAM
DirectX 9.0c
NVidia Geforce GTX 460
1024 Mb graphic RAM
258.96 video driver

Guess you guys don't experiment much?

Try TAPPING Fire button once after you reload any single bullet reloading animation (Revolver, Cowboy repeater) before you do anything else; it will not fire a shot as it should but it does "undue" the bug and you can use pip-boy, inv or what ever else again.

Not a fix, just a simple workaround until they fix this bug.

As foe reloading in VATS, well have to wait 15 seconds before you can do anything afterwards still ...

I can confirm that this works...for me. But no I don't experiment much, I guess. Thanks for posting the workaround.

Try TAPPING Fire button once...

I've had this bug in FO3 and tapping fire solved it back then.
Now I didn't experience this bug in FNV before the 1.2 patch, but after this I too am now having this bug again.
I think I'm going to download the reload work-around and I'm hoping this will help me.

This happened to me immediately after Steam updated the game with the new patch.

I can confirm many unresponsive keys that others have already said.

I can also confirm the click FIRE button once to unfreeze all affected unresponsive keys solution. Annoying, but seems to work.

How does something like this become broken? :(

Please fix it soon!

I seem to have a similar problem except now I can't go into third person view or wait. I tried changing the keys and it does nothing either. I can live this but now I can't even show off my character. The new patch is both a blessing and a curse since it solved all my stutter issues but now I get these minor annoyances. I tried verifying integrity but that didn't help. Reloading to an old Steam cloud save resolved the issue but than that was 35 hours ago, practically the beginning!

Same problem here. Didn't show up until after the last patch. While it's true that you can "unfreeze" with an extra click or two, it's a pretty nasty little annoyance in a heavy combat situation. :sadvaultboy:

try updating your computers bios and usb firmware if your using a usb keyboard. have the correct motherboard drivers for your machine, worst comes to worst a clean wipe of your hard drive and a reinstall of windows.

Since it happens only with this game and for me anyway only since I started a new game after the latest steam patch, telling people to wipe HD is a very bad idea. Hopefully no one will actually take your suggestion seriously!

I guess you don't read much either - i reported on page one that clicking the fire button once would fix it temporarily <_<

But yeah - I wonder if they've acknowledged this problem and are worknig on a fix yet?? :(
