Post » Thu May 10, 2012 6:29 am

Unfortunately i wasnt able to pick up Skyrim yesterday and i will have to wait until black friday to get it. Wish i had a time machine! :banghead: But for all of you that do have the game, how is it? Did it live up to the hype or not? What are some of your favorite things so far? Thoughts on the whole game?

I love the game! Everything!

Graphics, sound, gameplay, combat, voice acting, storyline...
I barely had any bugs, had no crashes yet in my 15hour playthrough..

In one word, great!

This game has made me feel something almost like bliss. Despite some minor bugs and lacking PC UI, I love this game.

svcks that you have to wait bro, hope it's not too rough for you.

As far as your review requests - I am loving the game a lot. I haven't been able to play it as much as I wanted, because I am a theatre student and had a huge run of rehearsals yesterday. But I'm off all day today and going to play. Unfortunately I already have a case of restartitis so I'm not sure if I wanna continue from where I'm already at, or if I wanna start over. I hate my OCD :sadvaultboy:

Early impressions though? Overall, I like it. Love it. But there's also something about it that feels... off... and I can't put my finger on it.

What I love: Combat / casting / dual wield. There was a lot of skepticism about dual wielding going in, but personally, I think it works incredibly. Dual wielding power attacks is a huge stamina drain, but I like it because it makes you have to manage stamina in a non-tedious way like Morrowind (draining if you so much as ran, and becoming totally incompetent with no stamina). Dual wield casting is great. Even if it doesn't combine for "MOAR POWAHZ!!!" I love dual casting different effect Destruction spells. Currently, I'm spraying enemies in the face with flame and shock spells. The way it blends together looks wonderful, and the way enemies melt at my feet is so fun :flamethrower: :flamethrower: :flamethrower: Skyrim certainly has, in my opinion, the funnest combat system of any Elder Scrolls game. I absolutely adore it.

I'm loving Conjuration. The only disappointment I have is that I can't have a summon and a reanimated zombie at the same time... BUT that's not a huge deal and I expected it to be that way anyways. But what's bigger than my disappointment is my love of reanimation. I love killing something and then raising it back to be my minion. My favorite implementation of Conjuration is now between Morrowind (numerous summons at once) and Skyrim (being able to reanimate).

Enchanting (one of my favorite skills in Morrowind, and one of my biggest Oblivion disappointments was that it was not in as a skill) is something of a disappointment so far... I really liked how it worked in Morrowind. However, I haven't used it enough, so once I discover the intricacies of Enchanting, that disappointment may fade away.

I'm loving the environments. Walking into an inn with bards playing their songs, while spectators sit around the fire listening. Dynamic conversations happening in the streets. The towns certainly feel more lively than Oblivion.

There's also certainly an element of challenge. The challenge feels more "Morrowind" and less "Oblivion". The best example I can give of that, is during my adventures, running around in some dungeons, that I got through with relative ease, and then entering another dungeon that I am absolutely stuck on. It's nice to know that the world isn't going to totally scale with me the way Oblivion did.

What I don't like: My restartitis, but that's my own problem, not the game's. I wish that Command spells were still in the game, and to a lesser extent, I wish that Open spells were still in the game. The early goings feel very story centric and less open world, but not in an "on the rails" type of way - you are still totally free to do what you want to do, but the story line definitely pushes you in a certain direction. Part of me feels like I ended up in Whiterun way too soon (but again - my problem, not inherently the game's).

I don't like the look of any armors that I've seen so far. Granted, they are all early level armors, but even in Morrowind or Oblivion I could find early level armors that I liked. In this, so far, they all look like light fur armors.

I don't like how you can't rotate your 3rd person camera while running to look at your character (unless there's something I'm missing)

Some animations feel weird. Not bad. Just weird. Not a -huge- fan of how the character looks in 3rd person while dual wielding weapons. I don't want to stand like a ninja. I want my dual wielder to be like http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff52/nell2thaizzay/ChaosWarrior2.jpg not http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff52/nell2thaizzay/FFXI-Hume-Ninja.jpg.

On a personal note, I'm still struggling with whether or not I want to be a heavy armored tank fighter, or a light armored mobility fighter. I'm focusing on magic either way, but I don't like to be pure magic, I like to mix it up and get into the thick of things as well. I like the Heavy Armor perks better I think, but I'm not investing a huge amount of points into health, which I feel defeats the purpose of heavy armor tanking, which leads me to believe that Light Armor would suit my playstyle better (and glass armor always has been my favorite in these games), especially since I'm dual wielding.

I love the game so far. Still not far enough in to be able to determine where it ranks among the other Elder Scrolls games. I still need to play more.

Agreed. That's one thing I loved in Oblivion was being able to run/walk and look at my character in 3rd person while moving the camera around them. I want to see my character from the front while they're running forward, or from the side... but you can't do that in Skyrim while they are moving, apparently.
