1.8 UpdateSolstheim DLC discussion Thread - #36

Post » Mon Nov 05, 2012 11:09 am

The next DLC will be called Dragonborn and it will be set on the island of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Solstheim.
The main locations you will be able to visit are http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raven_Rock, Miraak Temple, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Castle_Karstaag and a Telvanni tower (N.B.: Not the Telvanni Tower seen in Morrowind in Vivec, but http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tel_Uvirith).
There will be some new armor types, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bonemold, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Chitin, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Nordic and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Raw_Stalhrim each having heavy and light classifications.
Out of these new materials, you will be able to craft new types items out of two of them, namely Stalhrim and Nordic.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Spears will be added along with an array of new creatures/automotons, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Riekling#Riekling, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Scrib#Scrib, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Netch#Netch, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Boar#Boar, Benthic Lurker, Ballista Centurion, and something with an internal name ofHMDaedra, quite possibly referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora since it lists his plane of oblivion, Apocrypha. You will also be able to ride dragons and be in combat while mounted on one.

http://i.imgur.com/gF1hJ.png is what the quest header for Dragonborn Quests will look like, and http://i.imgur.com/AJu91.png is what the compass markers look like for the new locations.
From the top, clockwise: Telvanni Tower, To Solstheim, Raven Rock, Castle Karstaag, Standing Stones, To Skyrim, Miraak Temple.

There will be at least two new tracked stats: Dragonborn Quests Completed, and Stalhrim Items Crafted

You will travel to Solstheim via a boat, much like you did in Bloodmoon, although this time, it looks like you may at least get a partial visual boat ride.
The Telvanni tower has float up and down animations, so no levitation it seems.
Dragon riding will take place in its own world space

Mounted combat looks like it's getting an improvement with the ability to cast spells while mounted, tihs isn't necessarily a Dragonborn only thing though!

It appears that Update 1.8 readies Skyrim for PS3 DLC.

Misinformation:
Weapon degrading -- There's nothing to indicate this is added, that isn't to say it can't/won't be added however. There was just no "new" information in this update. The degradation stuff seen previously has all been renemants from previous CK games (Fallout)
H2H stuff, That was my diff program messing up, sorry
Release dates -- No one but Bethesda knows!
http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1420204-18-betasolstheim-dlc-discussion-thread-28/page__view__findpost__p__21726754 (unless someone can back this up?)

Other stuff that I can't put my finger on or give intelligent guesses about because of lack of information
Miraak death animation, Chieftain animations, Chisel animations (perhaps new crafting station for the new armor.. doubt it though), Storn Death Reaction animation & Storn Suit Stages, Frea, Pray, StonePickUp, KillMoveDLC02RipHeartOut, TreeAmbush
There also seem to be a lot more animation files for running with weapons. No idea why.
Dwarven Ballista -- Possibly a new trap? http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dwemer_Ballista#Dwemer_Ballista

All of the above is speculation over new strings found in the files from the 1.8 update, and should not be treated as facts or as any proof that any of it will even make it into the game! (but you all already knew that, didn't you!... Didn't you?) They were found by comparing 1.7.7.0 files with those in 1.8.145.0. The update to the Beta (i.e. 1.8.151.0) gave no new information, this is also the same as the release version 1.8.

You want proof, look at http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417392-18-beta-update-solsthiem-dlc-hints-thread-9/page__view__findpost__p__21660925 http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417392-18-beta-update-solsthiem-dlc-hints-thread-9/page__view__findpost__p__21660876 http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417175-18-beta-update-solsthiem-dlc-hints/page__view__findpost__p__21656816 http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1417057-time-for-some-spoilers-form-the-latest-beta/page__view__findpost__p__21653361

"We should have acted. It's already here. He told of their return. It's announcement was merely delayed. Until the time after a Sandy hit. And The forum goers would speculate rampantly. But no one wanted to believe. Believe that it even existed. But when the reveal finally dawned. It dawned with a picture. But, there was one who was right. His name was Dmel25... ABOUT DRAGON PRIESTS!!!"

Hopefully tomorrow's trailer will alleviate some speculation and confirm some of the rumors.

As I was saying, I really hope the rumors are true and this is about Hermaeous Mora. One of my favorite Daedric Princes, he is.

Well, someone in the previous thread that Solstheim is more populated now because the Dunmer fled Morrowind so Soltheim will probably be more diverse. As a side question; is Morrowind still inhabited by the Dunmer? I mean by now all of the volcanic ash affecting the air quality should have dissipated and Morrowind should start to look more tropical.

From UESP:

After the Oblivion Crisis, the Nords and Orcs launched attacks from the north.[2] Then, the disappearance of Vivec caused the Ministry of Truth to become unstable. Engineers in Morrowind, led by Vuhon, constructed a machine called the Ingenium, powered by living souls, to keep the ministry aloft. When one Dunmer named Ilzheven was chosen to power the machine, her lover Ezhmaar, also known as Sul destroyed the machine to save her life. The plan backfired, however, as the Ministry completed its fall, destroying Vivec City and causing Red Mountain to erupt, covering the rest of Vvardenfell in ash and lava in an event known as "The Red Year". An invasion by the Argonians of Black Marsh forced the remaining Dunmer to scatter all over Tamriel, most notably Solstheim, however many of the Dunmer are returning to their homeland to rebuild.

How big was Solstheim in Morrowind? From screenshots, it looks relatively small. I hope it's portrayed as a larger landmass in this DLC

I'm hoping its at least half the size of Skyrim. Yeah I need to work on my Two-Handed skill also, but aren't there smaller spears you can hold in one hand and a shield in the other hand? You know, like the Romans.

i guess it's a good thing i'm actually making an effort to get back into Skyrim, isn't it. i'm all for some mushrooms and libraries, and spears should be fun.

i imagine dragon riding will essentially be you flying high above the world, unable to actually ascend or descend, and then you pick a clear landing spot and wind up in that location in the actual world? that could be neat i guess.

The Shivering Isles were about 1/4 of Cyrodiil, but it had enough stuff that it felt bigger. Solstheim will probably be around the same size.

Not even. Do you see how small Sostheim is http://images.uesp.net/c/c3/TamrielMap.jpg compared to Skyrim? I'd love to see how they figure this out.

It's as big as the base of the Throat of the World. Kind of... small.

Why half ? Bethesda may have a little bit of issues but they wouldnt down grade a major DLC that much, ecspecially since SI and Bloodmoon set the Bar so high

scale doesn't really matter when they're separate worldspaces. they're free to blow it up however they want.

Yes, and they might have to make Solstheim bigger by either altering the scaling, re-establishing lore or both.

Wait, so Solstheim might be smaller than Shivering Isles? Yeah that reminds me; I need to play Shivering Isles. I have it installed but I stopped playing after I finished the Knights of Nine and got full Daedric Armor.

Not much development time and limited lore space (as Madcat124 pointed out, Soltheim is pretty small)
