My Upgraded PC is ready - Not sure if Skyrim is.

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 2:09 am

It's killing me not to take my newly upgraded PC and install Skyrim already. But the new patch assures I won't do it this week. When I bought Oblivion, it was a lucky thing that I happened to wait a couple months and by then, I was able to play a relatively stable and mod friendly version. I am proud to say I never new vanilla Oblivion. I started with OOO from scratch with a dozen other mods. I'm not sure if Skyrim has an overhaul planned but there are already graphical upgrades ready.

Can someone use their crystal ball and tell me when Skyrim hits its prime with stability and mods? (Was Morrowind like this, too?)

I've had next to no problems. Simply try the game out and see if it works! If not just wait for the patch. It's not rocket science. Big mods aren't going to come out for a good while yet. Settle down and play Vanilla and if you want to add graphics overhauls that are in progress.

I banked 180 hours on PC without any problems at all. I think it's safe to say you can try it out :)

I don't really think the Mods section is the right place for this. If you don't really have anything meaningful to contribute concerning actual mods, then you should take it to Skyrim General or Hardware and Software Issues.

Actually, you are wrong. I specifically mention I am waiting for mods before I start playing. The other two replies were helpful encouragement to start playing instead of waiting for "big mods" because they are a ways out.

So, right back at you since you had nothing meaningful to contribute.

There's at least one overhaul planned and if you go on skyrim nexus there are already quite a few graphic upgrades available.

I don't get this reasoning. You started off with a major overhaul without even experiencing what the mod changes in the first place?

How would you know what actually needed to be changed? How would you know that a change wasn't completely based on the authors personal tastes and actually might have made the game worse for you?

I'd wait until some balancing tweaks, improvements and bug fixes are available through mods or official patches. Good game but unfinished

Simply by a lot of time in the forums. I read up on the game and saw one glaring issue players had in vanilla: no level scaling. I knew that I didn't want to have a level 25 character that had a hard time fighting a rat because the rat was level 26. And really, to be honest, I did start with vanilla for a few levels before I discovered the mods. When I saw all that was available, I stopped playing and did quite a collection of mods to start from scratch.

So, good catch...I don't remember in those first few levels whether I felt something was wrong and needed changing. I really don't think so. I think I found many threads about the level scaling issues and happened on the overhaul and was instantly intrigued.

What's the name of the overhaul planned? I've started a list of the graphical upgrades. I'm definitely getting those :)
