Upgrading computer

Post » Wed Jun 27, 2012 7:51 pm

Hello, I'm trying to upgrade my friends computer. I'm not sure what kind of motherboard(thus I don't know what gpu connection to get) it uses. It is an old Dell inspiron 530S. Just looking for a small (and really cheap) gpu that can let him play stuff like counterstrike and tf2. The integrated Intel graphics don't cut it.

Thanks for any help. :)

Is this the one he is trying to upgrade? http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/inspiron-530s/pd

If so, that 250W PSU will be cutting it on most modern graphics cards. From Googling it, it looks to have a Pentium Dual Core, which really is not meant for gaming. The case looks to be a slim case as well which will really limit your options further. How much is he willing to spend?

From both the http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/inspiron-530s/pd and the http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/dell-inspiron-530s-desktop/4507-3118_7-32486101.html has it listed as having a 250W PSU.

@OP you should have your friend check to see what PSU he has.

The PSU he linked was an upgrade for the 250W stock PSU.
