Now the example where I have forged one Iron and one Steel dagger.
(Better than other - Worse than other)
Weapon: Iron Dagger
Damage: 4
Weight: 2
D / W ratio: 2 ( 4/2 )
FineDMG+ 2 ( Damage 6 )
D / W ratio: 3 ( (4+2)/2 )
Sup.DMG+: 2 ( Damage 8 )
D / W ratio: 4 ( (4+2+2)/2 )
Weapon: Steel Dagger
Damage: 6
Weight: 2,5
D / W ratio: 2,4 ( 6/2,5 )
FineDMG 0 (Damage 6)
D / W ratio: 2,4 ( (6+0)/2,5 )
Sup.DMG+: 3 (Damage 9)
D / W ratio: 3,6 ( (6+0+3)/2,5 )
What we can see here is that Steel Dagger what isn't upgraded is better at Damage & Damage/Weight Ratio than Iron Dagger and this is like it should be.
When Iron Dagger is upgraded to Fine Iron Dagger it's as goog as Steel Dagger what is fine becouse Fine Steel Dagger would be still better than that Fine Iron Dagger BUT like it's in my case I can't upgrade Steel Dagger to FIne Steel Dagger becouse it upgrades automatic to Superior Steel Dagger and what we can see above is that SUPERIOR IRON DAGGER is better at Damage/Weight Ratio and almost same damage what Superior Steel Dagger is.
I can't yet upgrade better than Superior so I don't know is it keep going like this but this looks like Iron Dagger is better than Steel Dagger in "long run".
That was bigger issue. Next comes smaller issue.
I'm lvl 4, my Smithing Skill is 32, I have opened Steel Smithing, Elven Smithing and Dwarven Smithing Perks. I don't have open any weapon or armour perks just becouse I wan't to make my Damage/Weight & Armor/Weight Ratio spreadsheet without bonuses what those can give if thay gives any.
There is some armor differences as well what I don't understand. Some Light armors gets more bonuses than other in same upgrade category.
Example Hide-, Leather Armor and Stormcloak Cuirass gets +4 at Superior upgrade but Imperial Light- and Studded Armor gets only 3. This is "confusing" and forces me wait for shearing some leveling points to some perks before I have found all other different armor variations so I can be sure that I use right stats to my Armor/Weight Ratio spreadsheet.
All stats is taken from smithing menu where you decide what you want to make.
My character likes to use "most balanced" weapon and becouse he is smith and warrior he knows that where the balance between damage and weight is correct are the best weapons. (<- My characters opinion !! No flaming please !!) So those D/W RATIO & A/W RATIO stats are really important info for my character. That's the reason why I'm doing this Damage/Weight & Armor/Weight Ratio spreadsheet.
[EDIT]: I noticed from my Armor/Weight Ratio spreadsheet that Iron- and Steel Shields is going like thay should I guess. Iron Shield gets +1 from Fine Upgrade, +2 From Superior Upgrade and Steel Shield gets +3 from Superior Upgrade so there that Iron shield can't get any advance from upgrading it first to "Fine" item.
