URGENT: The Eye of Magnus quest bug

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 3:32 am

When I go to fight Ancano, nothing happens. I can ask him the questions you normally can including '...' which he replies with 'you cannot defeat me!' then carries on casting at the Eye of Magus.

Casting the Staff of Magnus on Ancano nor the Eye works. I brought a companion and commanded him to attack Ancano, this starts A fight, but not the correct fight, the Eye does not activate for me to cast on it, nor can I cast anything (including the staff) on Ancano.

Has anyone else had this problem? This is annoying me so much I'm thinking of returning the game.

Thanks for reading!

I just used the thing you get from Morokei (don`t know the english name) on the eye and then some ghosts came out and attack him, me and all others around. Stuff you use just on him don`t give any damage. Sorry for my bad english.

Yeah, I tried using it and it doesn't work.

@Danlevm, I tried reloading my save several times, doesn't work. Even traveling to other locations and back, still hasn't. Worst bug I've encountered in the game so far.

Use the staff on the big orb in the middle of the room, it took like half my staffs charges to get him to come active. it doesn't look like it's working at first but keep at it. Also make sure the beam is hitting the orb not just your targeting reticule.

I've used all of the Staff's charge on the Eye, and still does not work. I don't believe it will unless the fight is initiated. Nothing happens, at all, when I enter the room. Not events triggered or anything.

I need to know how to reset the quest or Tolfdir, as I believe he may be the bug.

What I don't understand is how these bugs even occur... I've not delved into games programming but surely a simple if should trigger the event, obviously there are too many conditions which lie within the quest and outside of it. For example, Tolfdir/the Staff.

Sorry I can't help but I wanted to voice my sympathy regarding a broken quest as I'm struggling through the same issue with "The Silver Hand." Aela is supposed to open the Underforge and then we can all go in but she never comes. She just stands out back behind Jorrvaskr with a torch in her hand never moving.

Yeah, it's very annoying. It ruins the whole experience for me, because if I never solve it I can never complete the Winterhold quests completely, which is a big thing when you wanna do everything.... And I can't really enjoy proceding with my game because it'll just piss me off if I never get it. [censored] it Bethesda, whysobuggy?

Thanks for your sympathy, and good luck resolving the issue brotherin!

Okay, so after about 10-15 hours of gameplay I returned to Winterhold and the quest initiated. I was very happy, to say the least.

I had e-mailed Bethesda and they simply told me that any action of decision can cause/resole a bug. So my adice to anyone else with this problem is: just go and play, and return, it'll eentually work. Yes one of my keys is broken, can you get which one ;P?

PS: Please lock this topic.
