Does anybody else think it would be cool if you could use the broken soul gem pieces to improve the staves (staffs) and maybe be able to make black soul gems?
there literally seems to be no use whatsoever for the pieces of soul gems that you find lying around in dungeons.
also maybe the broken weapons you can find (Broken iron sword handle/blade) could be used to make unique weapons or could be placed on display racks like the shards of wuuthrad.
if you have a quill, inkwell, and a roll of paper (or a ruined book) you should be able to write notes or keep a diary so you can remember things you would otherwise forget.
firewood and linen wraps could be used to craft torches, and dwarven oil combined with lanterns could be used to make a light source in your house
It would be awesome if you could put a centurion dynamo core in a dwarven shield where that ball is or put it on the end of a mace.
I wish you could drop a plate or a platter and then have the option to choose what food you put on them
it would be nice if you could take the tusks from those mammoth skulls that are all over the giants camps and the badlands and then grind them into powdered mammoth tusks
those unmovable rugs that you find rolled up in dungeons could be used to decorate the players house, make tents, and be sold to the khajiit caravans
animal hides/tusks could be used to make differently themed fur/hide armors (deer, goat, horse, wolf, bear, fox, cow, saber cat, horker/mammoth tusks)

do you guys have any other ideas for ways that useless items could be put to some good use?

firewood does/ will shortly have a VERY good use. i never have spare firewood anymore. i agree with mammoth tusks, we find powdered tusk why not be able to grind it ourselves?

Arrow/crossbow bolt crafting is included in the Dawnguard DLC, and requires firewood.

Can I craft iron, steel, glass, elven, dwarven, orcish, ebony, and daedric arrows or only dragon bone arrows?

All of them.

One piece of firewood and one ingot will make 24 arrows.

Now I got me lots of Ebony arrows.

start stocking up. im levelling smithing basically only making arrows now. and i might just have a reason to go up both sides of the tree.

Oh really? I haven't crafted any bolts yet. Go cruising through a Dwemer ruin. I have over 200 Dwarven bolts just from diving in the ruins.

Why no mammoth hide armor and mammoth bone weapons? Why no wolf themed fur armor?
Why no silver armor and gold armor and weapons? (Especially in Markarth of all bloody places!)

Useless items? I always try to find use for them.
I was able to make a better toilet by putting a Dwember Bowl in a Bucket, putting the Bucket in a Kettle, putting a Dwemer Cog on top for the seat, then leaving a Roll of paper on the side

Yeah you get to use all of them charus chitin can also be used to create that armor and weapons.
