PC users: controller or keyboard mouse?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:05 pm

Ha.

I use a controller. I prefer it, I find it more relaxing and I'm not a fan of the "MORE CONTROL" argument. I don't go out of my way to make games easy for myself.

putting aside the more control argument, I don't see how using k&m is 'going out of my way to make games easy'.

It's like playing a game sitting down, ... or in one of those convoluted yoga positions. Is sitting down equal to 'going out of the way to make things easier'?

I was always a K&M kind of player. Started like that for Skyrim too but then I changed my setup (plugged the pc to a projector on the living room, plus a few other things) so I decided to get an XBox controller so I could play confortably in the couch.

I must say, it feels like a much better experience now, I'm very impressed with the controller. Of course, you can get more precision with a mouse but without the competitive aspect of multiplayer to worry about, I really don't care. There are advantages too like the speed that you're moving can vary much more, instead of having 2 speeds and I found that every turn and the way you look around is much smoother because you tend to move your hand quickly from point A to point B with a mouse.

It feels natural too, at least more natural than I was expecting for someone that never had an XBox. Skyrim's design choices help too, of course.

I suffer from a condition called "Wrongbuttonitis"... you know, pressing the wrong keys at the most inopportune time?

So I use the mouse and a Razer Nostromo gaming device. I started using the Nostromo series back in 2005, and I've never looked back at the keyboard for basic gaming controls since.

Xbox 360 controller for Windows FTW. Mostly because of the UI.

I've never used a controller and I never plan to use a controller, ever, in my lifetime. It's keyboard and mouse for me.

Keyboard and Mouse works best for me on the PC version of "Skyrim" once I get used to it.

No I just see "more control" as completely irrelevant to the way I enjoy my games. I don't care that I have more control, nor do I care that I lack control. I'd rather play with my controller because I feel more relaxed and comfortable. Which, on a related note, it also why I sit down. When I first started gaming as a wee lad I used to stand up because I concentrated more. So all of you people who sit down must be completely stupid, just like those people who use game pads. I mean, srsly, you DON'T want to concentrate more? Seriously...

Mostly K&M because I'm used to it in TES, but I'll use the 360 controller & hotkey mods if my boyfriend played before me and it's sitting there - it's fine either way

I was going to use my Xbox controller for windows, but then they fixed the awful mouse lag so I'm sticking with keys/mouse.

I prefer playing on the gamepad. It's more comfortable for me and I'm used to it, being a console gamer.

What idiot would use a controller on a PC?

Me. I was going to explain why, but then I figured if I did, it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Keyboard and mouse for a million reasons. Having said that, I stopped playing the game after about 20 minutes because I was assaulted with a sort of GIANT console-type interface with absolutely massive lettering and a UI that filled the entirety of my 27 inch monitor whenever I opened inventory or magic etc. Clearly, Bethesda think PC users play all their games from the other side of the room the same as console users. Someone ought to explain to them what a PC actually is. I am now waiting for some kind modder to release the PC UI that Bethesda found beneath themselves to do I guess it's just not part of their job eh?

I've used both, and what I found was that melee combat is really the only thing that's easier/more natural using the controller. Everything else is much better with K/M. I may mess around some more trying to find a better system (other hotkeys maybe) for combat, or just keep working on getting better using the mouse for.

If a game lets me (Rage) I prefer to use both at the same time. Skyrim doesn't, so I use the keyboard/mouse for the (limited) hotkeys.

I completely agree with this. While I do use the gamepad and this system works fine for me, I don't see why people like me should be prioritised. I coped fine with the PC UI in Morrowind.

Of course, an ideal situation would be the ability to toggle between two UI's... If only.

I use a 360 controller for PC I found it enjoyable for my archer/stealth class as I almost never switched off my bow. Using a 360 Controller for my mage class that constantly has to set different spells is a pain. I might switch and use KBM for this class.

Controller is pretty terrible for this kind of game IMO. I tried it before the 1.2 patch that fixed the mouse out of frustration but hated it, truly hated it. That lumbering sort of clumsy aiming is unusable for me.

That said I use my controller on PC a lot for racing games, platformers and some third-person action games like Assassin's Creed or Batman.

Right you are. But I discovered that the controlling is way more hectic than in MW or Oblivion. This has probably to to with the more active combat system at all, but even regular movement seems to become a bit stressy by the time.

Playing with a controller is like mastvrbating with a ovenmit on.

If you are into that sort of thing more power to you, but I prefer better control and feel.

The ONLY reason to use a controller is so you can play sitting on your couch, but its inferior in every other way.

I'm keyboard and mouse person. I can't handle the controller not having quicksaves and stuff with it. I know there's a mod that let's me remap, and adds extra buttons, but it also changed the keyboards buttons. I still would rather have console ability too and for some reason you can't use both keyboard and controller in this game.

360 controller with wireless keyboard nearby for the sole purpose of pressing F5.
