Using a controller and mousekeyboard simultaneously

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 5:46 am

I'm trying to enable the anolog stick on my g13 using http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/.

It works fine when using SKSE loader or launching the game normally. However it won't hook when using the http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1013.

I've tried adding the dll as an extradll as a launch option.

EDIT: I suppose all else failing I just wait for the official LAA patch.

Have you put the dll in your \Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\exes folder?

It's in my skyrim root dir. Right next to TESV.exe and my data folder. It works with everything but the 4gb loader which makes me think it's an error with the laa hook.

Oh my mistake, I thought you were using the latest 4gb patch. Those of us on the latest 4gb patch need to copy our dlls to the exes folder that the loader creates, or else it won't hook any other dlls besides SKSE.

that would be it then. I must have missed that instruction when I updated my laa... Will test and report back.

Well that got the anolog stick working. Now the only problem is that the game doesn't seem to support a mixed control set up. :(

Is there a way to use both m/k and xbox controller at the same time? I want my movement on the anolog stick and everything else normal m/k controls.

Glad part of it's working at least.
As to a mixed control setup, my guess would be you having to assign the keys manually in the controlmap, gamepad and mouse text files.
I'm not sure though, as I don't have a gamepad to test on.

Sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone smarter will come along and weigh in :)

Edit - Looks like it can be done, if it can be done with hotkeys it should be able to be done with looking around - http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=385

I was doing some reading and it seems like it might be a limitation of the xinput api not supporting mouse controls. I'm going to play around with my skyrim ini for a bit. :toughninja:

EDIT: I'm throwing in the towel for now. I guess I'll stick with WASD until I get this figured out.

If you can't get it to work correctly, and you have the extra cash to spend I'd recommend getting a http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-940-000117-Wireless-Gamepad-F710/dp/B0041RR0TW.

I used to play exclusively with mouse and keyboard, but with all the console ports with terrible PC controls, I finally decided to get a controller.

This thing makes it so much easier to play several ports on PC which were designed for a controller anyway, as we all know.

I can switch between this and mouse and keyboard seamlessly with no problems.

I have a game pad, however I'm fine with wasd however I'd love to use the thumb stock on my Logitech g13 as an anolog stick. As is right now, I haven't found a way to use an anolog stick for movement and a mouse/keyboard for everything else.

I see. I started that way first, as well, liking being able to throttle my movement speed instead of having 2 speeds with a keyboard, but then I got used to how the controller felt.

For Skyrim it just makes more sense to me, because of the right and left triggers for each respective hand. I tried remapping the mouse buttons, but I just couldn't get used to it.

I guess when mods come out which add new features that require keys mapped to them, I'll have a problem.

Still doesn't help me. Since I couldn't shoot my way out of a wet paper bag with an xbox controller. :P

I can't either, but for some reason it's easier for me in Skyrim than using a mouse.

I wouldn't dream of using a controller for Morrowind or Fallout, but I suppose Skyrim is just made for aiming with a controller. Maybe some form of barely noticeable auto-aim or expanded "hit box".

Maybe I'm just used to it.

I really like my controller!

There's definitely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpsMW4DKE0o

I guess I'll try out my logitech controller and see how I like the game with it. IMO, it probably won't be worth the sacrifice in precision of aim etc.

I was considering using one of the apps like Pinnacle game profiler to build my own controller mapping and turn off the default one in game. I really dislike the nerfed d-pad mapping in Skyrim and would like to get back the 8 shortcuts Oblivion had.

Does anyone know how to edit controlmap_custom.txt? When I open it I just get funky characters.

I'm using notepad ++ but have not figured out how to do a vanilla vs modified comparison. I recall textpad does this. You can download either from cnet.

Yes, please! I really hope this gets patched in as I'm really liking the XBox controller with Skyrim, but that the K/M is disabled for the most part is going to be really limiting to mod users in the event we get KeyPress code from SKSE, not to mention it just seems there's no reason to make the two input methods mutually exclusive (see Batman Arkham City/Asylum, Aliens vs. Predator, Portal 2). Please!

The Skyrim Key Helper found under the optional files for this mod seems like it might be able to do this if it were updated to include control pads. Maybe I'll mail my gamepad to the maker so he can figure it out. :P

EDIT: Forgot the link... http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=88

I wonder if it's possible to hijack the xinput file from one of those games to get it to work. Probably not though...

I think I'm getting closer. I downloaded a controlmap file from http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=246, and I've determined that the keycode for the joystick axis is 0x000b however the game still goes to controller only mode when I have an xinput.dll loading.

So far I've added 0x000b to my controlmap.txt in my skyrim\Data\Interface\Controls\PC\ now I just need to figure out a way to disable controller only mode.

I have been trying to accomplish joint 360 Controller and Mouse/keyboard input in the controlmap.txt file since release day of this game and from what I can see, it is just not possible.

As soon as you enable Xbox 360 support in the Options Menu (which you have to in order to enable anologue movement on the left thumbstick), all mouse input and the majority of keyboard input (exceptions include the Quick Save/Quickload keys and the console key) is automatically disabled by the game engine and I remember that the two Fallout games had the same problem.

I like to play using the mouse in my right hand for turning/aiming and attacking, etc - and the controller in my right hand for basically everything else. I do have Pinnacle Game Profiler which is a fantastic program, but unfortunately it can only emulate anologue xinput on the thumbstick if you have enabled controller input in-game, which brings us back to square one ...

I think the automatic disabling of one type of input, if the other type is enabled, is hard coded and unfortunately could only ever be changed by the developer (which I predict they will never do). :(
