using pre-recorded sound files for dialogue in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:01 pm

I am a pure newbie when it comes to modding TES games, but following through the quest tutorial on the wiki I was wondering, is there a way to use a sound file that was not recorded using the Creation Kit directly to use as dialogue? I want to make a mod with multiple characters with my friends providing voices, and it's not feasible for me to fly them in here from, say, Maryland, California, Queensland, etc to talk into my microphone, so I'd rather they record audio themselves with Audacity or whatever and send me a sound file. I'm assuming there is a way to link files like this to dialogue, I just can't find how myself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Create a WAV file via the RECORD button
  • Create a LIP file via "generate LIP file" -> "from WAV"
  • If you want to, convert the WAV into a XWM (use xWMAEncode from the latest MS DX-SDK)
  • Rename either the WAV or the XWM to .FUZ - Skyrim will play it regardless, what format you have renamed
If your friends are sending voice files, just put them to the right place (respectively replace your own files). The only magic is, to rename the extension.
If they are sending WAV files, don't forget to create new LIP files BEFORE renaming the voices to .FUZ.
