using staffs?

in what character build are staffs used?

i have never used a staff in any TES game. i feel using magic normally is more fun, and it does not fit any other play style i can think of

can someone explain to me, besides it is good to reserve magika? I feel that what makes a mage complex knowing how to use your magika just like a warrior needing to know when to use power atks to not waste stamina.

Thank you for explanations

From what I have read staffs don't have enchants instead spells. So what I suggest use staves depending on the spell it has and how powerful it is.

Most of the staffs are only useful early on in the game sadly. You do of course have the occasional powerful staff. Like the staff that the hagraven owns, the one where you must take out her sister.

I'm kinda with you here. I don't really find staves to be all that useful this time around. In oblivion I used them with my mage characters to supplement my magic but you also had the quick cast button in that game. In skyrim they just seem useless due to how magic is done in this game.

I personally like having a few staffs but maybe that's just cuz i havnt focussed as strongly on my magic side of the game as others, or maybe it's cuz i'm only a lvl 35 character and i'm still on my way to getting more powerful weapons and magics.

With that being said I will keep my staffs that do 50 points of damage or more and discard the crappier ones. For me, it's nice to have a weapon that can keep distance between myself and the enemy while reserving the magika i could be using on spells. Perhaps when i am at a higher level or my magic is MUCH stronger, i will then stop using staffs so much.

Generally Speaking - One of the MANY things i LOVE about Skyrim (or ANY of the Elder Scrolls games for that matter) is one's ability to choose from a vast array of methods of attack. Different weapons for different ranges and from those weapons there are so many different styles, strengths, levels of focus etc... you know what i mean? i could elaborate but i TRY to keep my posts brief as possble.

i dont see any use for them, in any of TES games, i never felt they out did magic in anyway or were useful in other builds

the only thing i can see is a person duel wielding in skyrim with a 1 hander and a staff, but they would be stupid for close range and bows are stronger for non magic users so why not use that for range instead of a staff

Never use 'em. Seems pointless in that their use doesn't help build skills (i don't think).

Would be cool if you could charge them using your character spells instead of using soul gems. but too bad.
