Are there really no paintings on the walls? Hadn't noticed this.

There are certainly plenty of stuffed animal heads on the walls instead though, which fits into the whole Skyrim theme better.

Still a few paintings on the walls in the more upper class areas would be nice, e.g. Solitude.

Bah, true sons and daughters of Skyrim don't bother with sissy things like finding sissy flowers to use as dyes and pigments to use in some alchemical process too complex for manly warriors to understand! When true sons and daughters of skyrim want to decorate, they put up a trophy of that mudcrab they killed! (No, really, they do.)

I've noticed that as well, defenatley needed. The Nords might be rough, but they're not brutes who only appreciates a good animal head.

At least I seem to remember reading books in Morrowind or Obivion that indicated Nords are not your steriotypical viking barbarians.

Don't believe in the "Nords of Skyrim" book. It was wrote by a nationalist Nord.

In retaliation a Dark Elf wrote "Dunmer of Skyrim".

I, personally, don't miss not having paintings. I'd rather have some fancy tapestries. But paintings are really easy to make and would certainly be a nice addition to the modding arsenal.

I'm okay with UNIQUE paintings.

What I hated about Oblivion was that everyone had the same basic kind of paintings. It made me feel like out there somewhere was some poor Imperial locked in a dungeon, forced to paint thousands of reproductions of the same image, longing for the sweet, sweet release of death by painted troll.

Those go especially well with a tastefully designed bouquet of snowberries.

This made me laugh out loud :teehee:

Historically, though, its not too far off the mark. Up until the 18th century (ish, can't give exact dates), artists worked in workshops and did a ton of copying of their own work, other people's work, or a common theme. Of course this was mostly religious imagery, rather than landscapes, but the idea of the artist as an individual who produces unique pieces of art is very, very new.

uh, I dunno...Perhaps a modder will read this and want to make a mod that adds paintings? Just a thought...

I completely agree...Seeing that same old portait over and OVER again got quite old...

But I dont know, it just seems like, of all the things they didnt add to the game its kind of wierd to leave out paintings. (dont get me wrong, there are like millions of things I would rather see implemented before paintings) I just find it strange...At first I didnt even realise there werent any (Obviously they did a good job covering the walls with various tapestries and displays) But then in my house I was mounting the Mace of Molag Bal and noticed "Hey, where are all the paintings?"

And whoever thinks that all paintings are lame and un-manly, you are very misinformed...While yes, some are more or less lame, but what about ones depicting great battles? Or a Dragon sitting on a mountain top? I think paintings like those would go perfectly with the Skyrim ambiance...

Anyone want to argue that his work isn't manly?

I dunno, judging from the way the Nords seem to treat their banners I don't know if they could be trusted with paintings. Check the one in the entry to the "Hall of Attainment", or any of the ones that are mysteriously attached to rocks outside any given ruin as an example of poor textile preservation.

Btw, we arent just talking about NORD paintings here...Fine, if people want to think Nords dont or didnt have/make paintings whatever, but there are 7 other races which live in Skyrim aswell and im pretty sure atleast 1 or 2 of them had some sort of paintings (Imperials had paintings in Cyrodil, Dunmer in Morrowind, and if you think those fancy pants high elves dont have paintings? HA I highly doubt they dont..)

when one of these other races moved to Skyrim with their belongings youd think they just might have brought there pictures with them? Well, obviously they didnt...lol

I was only specifically talking about Nords. Because they are the only race I have played with yet.
