I would imagine there will be a better solution once it is finally released. Making all the NPCs essential is just going to be annoying.

I'm prepared for it on my game. I removed the ash pile effect from conjuration spells and installed the Midas Magic Resurrect spell.

I'll control life and death as I see fit.

They are not all essential only protected so you can still kill them =D and dont think it touched those that need to be killed for quests.

It's not a problem of you don't fast travel everywhere, I never fast travel and I have had two vampire attacks in 30 hours of dawnguard gameplay.

The way I fixed it was to not stop the main quest and explore like 99% of everyone who has had this happen and I finished it in a row, the only attacks I get are by Dawnguard and its in the wilds but then again I sided with the Volkihar.

Seriously, you really believe that? I would bet now that what we get on PC will be exactly what is released for the Xbox, no warts removed at all.

I find it really hilarious that there are fixes for bugs in a freakin add on for PC that no one can play yet!

This has got to be a first, I know how it's possible, with the creation kit mistake, but honestly, why couldn't they just have "mistakenly" released the freakin Dawnguard add on to all platforms instead?

Oh wait, I just got it, it's part of the new beta testing model. Mistakenly release the creation kit for Dawnguard, let the modding community fix the bugs, then release the content, that way you don't have to spend money fixing your bug ridden code, it's already fixed for you.

Now that's really smart "outside the box" thinking.

I fast travel everywhere and I still don't have any vampire attacks only dawnguard scouts and revered dragons. Amusingly people actually do run away from revered dragons.

Ditto! but but but, it would be soooo nice if it hit 360 and ps3 also.... not mind you that I have a problem. 1 city attack, MQ finished... no problem.

If the attacks aren't that frequent I'll just use the resurrect console command on the NPC's. If you do it pretty soon after they die, it doesn't mess up their AI package, only if you wait awhile.

I am going to put money on someone creating a mod that makes Serena available for marriage within a week of the PC release.

I take my hat off to your sir!!!

Yes I've just forked out big dollars for a PC and the Xbox version is going to just gather dust on the shelf.

I think the fix was created for people who were having problems protecting their NPcs from dragons. Now it has another application for Vampire attacks.

I wasn't saying Bethesda will change anything. That isn't likely to happen at all. I'm saying once the online community can actually mod Dawnguard in the CK they will be able to make a better solution. They will be able to lessen the vampire attacks or stop them completely or come up with a different solution. The only thing they can do right now without the DLC is make NPCs essential. Which, after considering that you can still kill them, may not be as bad of an idea as I originally thought.

Ok that clears the misconception, I thought you meant Bethesda would actually try to fix their code! Now that I think about it I'm really the stoopid one, no one in their right mind would think that, what made me think you would believe it?

NO that does not work. Shopkeepers and quest NPCS get really really screwy if they die and get resurrected. Because they have different behavior than the regular generic NPC the resurrect command doesn't work perfectly. Good example is after a vendor dies their store remains locked afterwards even if you ress the person. So its best just to make sure the person just DOES NOT DIE>

It wouldn't take long for one to offer up some dawnguard hunting patrols for cities, on the PC.

That way the towns are protected and they could be increased as you further the dawnguard questline.

There will be an easier fix I assure you.

Specifically, one that disables the scripts to spawn vampire attacks. Won't be hard to make.

Maybe even as easy as setting a variable.

By opening the console and typing "set MQ106TurnOffRandomDragons to 1" all random dragon attacks (non scripted or not random, ie those dragons guarding the altars) cease. This is a global variable which is also stored inside saved games so the effect is permanent (or unless it is reversed to 0)

There may also be mods for more extreme vampire attacks, and better defended NPCs. Who knows? maybe even a lore-friendly Amulet of Stendaar that weakens vampires with a beam of light.
