Like the title says, is playing as the Vampire Lord magicka intensive? I played as a warrior primarily before and I'm like level 71 so its sorta too late to do much about that, and I don't want to really start again.
Do you run out of magicka super quick as the Vampire Lord or does it sort of cater for people who didn't necessarily pick magicka as their forte? It'd svck to not be able to play the best thing from this DLC just cause I don't have much magicka.
I play as a warrior also, having a higher amount of magicka will help but my magicka is somewhere around 120 and I never run out as a Vampire Lord. It shouldn't be a problem.
You could always just use the claws in VL form but not having a ton of magicka isn't bad (plus there's a ring you can get that gives you +100 magicka and +magicka regen) so you're set there.
Before you make any decisions, I'm not sure those people are correct. From what I have read, the only armor attributes that carry over are from special items gotten during the DLC quests. Besides the Vampire Lord skills are their own tree of magic so destro reduction wouldn't help.

You might be correct, I'm not completely sure to be honest.

No, you'll be fine, i'm the same as you and I get more than enough in VL form
A little extra wouldn't hurt, but the good thing with Vampires is there magic is, as far as I'm aware, separate from normal magic so you don't need to level any magic skills to be effective as a Vampire.
I wont say what, but there is an "armor" piece (quotes because it's not really armor) that gives you +125% magicka regen, it looks cool as [censored], and it's almost impossible to miss. You'll be fine even if you don't want to wear it though. Vampire Lord form regens like crazy already.
At level 50 my character has not invested one level up in magicka. Wearing the vampire royal armor and the ring of erudite, he never ever runs out of magicka as a vampire lord.
Like the guy above me, my max level character hasn't put a single skill boost to magic and I have no problems. You vampire lord stats are separate from your regular stats. Also, I can confirm that only certain items will stay equipped when in VL form. The Royal Vampire Armor and the rings and necklaces from the side quest.

How extensively have you tested it? I would use other pieces of enchanted armor, rings, and amulets that you find or made to really see.
In your vamp lord form you have incredibly high magicka and stamina regen as long as you are not exposed to sunlight. Unfortunately if you are in sunlight you are effectively crippled magicka and stamina wise unless you have the corresponding magicka regen gear to compensate.
