Vampire mods(?)

Post » Sun May 06, 2012 11:49 pm

I'm just wondering how many vampire mods there was in Oblivion, what they changed, and if somebody know, the possibility of them returning in skyrim?
I really like the concept of being a vampire in Skyrim, but since being a vampire is the same as in Oblivion I'm gonna hold that off until there are some proper mods to enhance the experience.

I appriciate all positive feedback :)

I think they said it is a hole different way of playing, but then again that could mean anything.

Well, I'm happy that we have them at all. How many Open-Ended World Medieval Fantasy Games let you became a Vampire as a optional part of the game? :spotted owl:

If Vampirism is more or less identical to Oblivion the first mod I'll make is one that turns it upside down.

Feeding should make you stronger and give a measure of protection to the sun whilst not feeding should svck in every way, making you much weaker without any advantages (indeed weaker than if you were not a Vampire at all).

I'll expand on this last but the first iteration will hit Nexus within 24 hours of the toolset being released.

I don't know how the creation kit works or if it's very difficult and time consuming(i.e taking ages to make the simplest of mods), but if it turns out that it's easy to learn I will probably devote myself to make this myself.

I still hope someone get something up on Nexus fast though :P

I think they said it is a hole different way of playing, but then again that could mean anything.

The way Todd described it (The sun affects you differently depending upon how much you feed, you can only feed on sleeping NPCs, etc), it sounds almost exactly like it was in Oblivion.

The whole reason for Vampires getting stronger when they don't feed, is that drinking fresh blood, actually suppresses their Vampirism. Suppressing their Vampirism causes them to retain a more or less mortal appearance (Allowing them to blend into mortal society), but it also suppresses their supernatural strength/powers. Allowing their Vampirism to progress however (By not feeding), has the opposite effect. They gain more strength and powers as they become more a undead creature, and less a mortal man, but they also become more undead in appearance, making it plain for society to see what they are.
Vampires who frequently feed, are basically attempting to cling to their former, mortal life. While Vampires who forgo feeding, are embracing their undead nature. Do note however, that after a few centuries of being a Vampire, regardless if they regularly fed or didn't feed, their Vampirism will progress to such a state that it can no longer be suppressed by fresh blood. Vicente Valtieri was one such Vampire.

Another thing, that Ice Shout ability that they showed quite a bit of, looks like it would fit perfectly as a Power for the Volkihar Vampires, considering "I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins."

I guess that makes sense, but I prefer another way of vampirism: Feeding makes you stronger/keeps you healthy (sort of) and causes you to retain a mortal appearance. When you don't feed you'll get weaker and you'll lose your mortal appearance.

The sun however is a different thing entirely: Under no circumstances can a vampire walk in the sun UNLESS you got a talisman(ring/necklace etc.) to protect you.

Another thing is how to feed. I really dislike that you have to feed on sleeping targets. I'd like to be able to feed whenever i want (of course, if I'm spotted by someone they'll TRY to report the crime, but they won't get far.) and on standing/sitting/moving/ targets.

Also the older an vampire is the stronger he/she is. :)

I haven't tried being a vampire in Oblivion, but the way people describe it I don't see how it enhances your gameplay unless you're a hardcoe RPer.

Many of my characters were vampires in Oblivion. I cant understand why nobody likes OB vampires, i mean they were much better than what morrowind had and their abilities were actually useful.

Another thing I'm wondering is if mods will work on saves i had before downloading the mod? For example: I have played for x hours and I've become a vampire, I discover there is this awesome vampire mod on Nexus and i download it (etc.). Will all the changes made by that mod apply or do i have to start a new character in order for the changes to set in?
