Vault 34 very hard/ hard core mode ?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:11 am

I just went to vault 34 in normal mode without hard core mode and found that place to be a death trap. Went through the Vault did everything gopt every key, got all the weapons and destroyed the reactor. The best fallout experience ever... I was wondering...has anyone done Vault 34 in very hard difficulty and hard core mode ?

I did Vault 34 on Normal, hardcoe, with my Hardercore mod (in the sig.) It was intense. I had just knocked over the Van Graffs and was feeling pretty invincible with my new arsenal. The first time in, it pretty quickly became clear I needed to go back to the Novac motel where I left my radiation suit. Second time I went all the way through, but came out hungry, thirsty, irradiated, sleepy, crippled, and out of rad-away and energy ammo. Veronica was almost dead, too. I had to finish off the last room with frag grenades and a submachine gun and ammo I had picked up in the vault (that I had 15 skill for).

Tried it on hardcoe. I got crippled three times within five minutes after meeting the first ghoul. Ed-E, that useless travelling suitcase, got killed as soon as I entered the second level to find the armory.

I put my controller down. Swore. A lot. Picked it back up, walked out of the Vault, and have not returned with that character. I don't need the All American or the Pulse Gun. Too much [censored] misery.

Just another reason to buy up all the RadX and RadAway you can find... I was the most excited to have an opportunity to wear my new

To prevent companions from wandering away from you you should use sneak mode. They stay very close when you are sneaking. Helps their survival rate quite a lot. Radiation stops being a problem once you rob the clinic and have at least half-decent knowledge of the layout. Ghouls... well, they aren't Deathclaws (imagine if this Vault was full of DCs, that'd be awesome), two to the head and they are done? Best remedy for crippled limbs is having a better armor on you. Make sure your limbs are cured to 100% before you venture in. Food and water shouldn't be a big problem, I took 10 of each last time, walked out with like 8. I was only a tiny bit sleepy there.

Maybe your character is too young to deal with it? Return 5 levels later and it should be a breeze...

The biggest problem I had with Vault 34 was finding my way around. That was the single most confusing place I have been in within the Fallout World.

did in very hard and hardcoe, using a marksman carbine, having boone with an AMR and the NCR ranger combat armor, as well as me, most stressful yet best experience in NV so far.

Did it on hardcoe and despite sneaking and putting my companions on passive there were multiple times where they just run off and get themselves killed.
Multiple loads to previous saves, lots of swearing, lots of console commands to unglitch ED-E (who gets stuck on random things), and lots of Rad-X and Rad-Away later I finally got the All-American and the Pulse gun and high-tailed it out of there.

I've done the whole game so far on Very Hard / hardcoe. Vault 34 was a b**ch, but I got through it by having lots, and lots, and lots of Radaway. Going down into the armory the first time was an eye-opener. I was about level 10 at the time. Came back later after growing up a bit, and having a big boy weapon (modified 10mm SMG) lots of jet, med-x, psycho and then just basically blasting away as they came up the stairs.

After that, it was just figuring out the puzzle, and finding enough radaway to not die. Oh yeah, and a radiation suit is real helpful.

Loved the vault!!!

Did it on Very Hard but I went at like...lvl 24 or something so the enemies weren't exactly challenging (just sneaking around 1 shotting ghouls weee). The radiation was very stressful though, since I didn't know about it going in and my supplies of RadX and Radaway basically put me on a clock, and the confusing as hell layout didn't help things.

At lower lvls when Ghouls are still a problem though, that place would have been pure hell.
