Veronica and the Gauss rifle

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:45 am

I recently had Veronica try out the Gauss rifle, just to see how she'd do with it. The Fallout wiki lists her as having 76 Energy Weapons skill and 6 STR, so I figured she would wield the weapon with no problems.

I then proceed to attack some local townspeople in Novac to see how accurate she is/isn't. I was sad to see her miss about 80% of her shots with the Gauss. She was content to stay at a really long range with the weapon, but she had no ability to hit with it from there.

Has anybody else had different results with Veronica and the Gauss? Is she effective with any of the decent Eweps? Is the Fallout wiki just flat out wrong and should she stick to Guns for her ranged option, as her default 10mm Pistol would suggest? For the record, I normally have her melee with a Ballistic Fist (which works great). I'm just getting a feel for what else she can do/use decently.

I question the stats that the Fallout wiki lists somewhat. According to it, Cass is better at Melee than Unarmed but she was just about as lethal with the Ballistic Fist as Veronica was...or damned close. Cass is stronger, given....but Veronica has a 103 Unarmed skill (apparently). Meh.

Because Veronica is a close combat specialist. Give her a powerful unarmed weapon or a chainsaw and she'll wreck house.

Lately I've been trying her out with Oh Baby!, the unique Super Sledge. She's a beast with that thing.

Besides, it's just cool as hell watching that little girl crush some Fiend's skull with it.

You will find that the companions will tell you what they are good with, and Veronica is not any good with Ranged Weapons, Guns or Energy. Give her something to punch with and let her go to town.

To an extent, she whines about not being able to punch stuff but she has put alot of lead into the right people for me with the 10mm SMG i gave her and a bunch of revolvers. Alought reading the other comments it does seem about par that she misses some with these, shes still alright.

As for the OP who should give Boone the Guass ... i mean damn that dude is good with it! :foodndrink:

Ive given Veronica various different weapons ranging from the Unique Minigun, to the unique Plasma rifle, to the unique Gauss rifle. to the Gattling Laser, along with the Gannon Family Tesla Power Amor (+10 to energy weapons).
In summary if you want a person who can effectively wipe out enemies from long range just stick with Boone.
However give Veronica a nice set of Enclave Remnant Armor or Brotherhood T51-b power armor and a good unarmed weapon like Pushy, Paladin Toaster, or the Ballistic fist and just watch her fist launch anything that stupid enough to get close... (minus the occasional deathclaw or cazador)

1. If you don't have "Veronica fix", she doesn't level up and her Energy skill is way below Gauss requirements giving her a vast penalty.
2. Even when you have the fix, at lvl 20 which is max, she will have only 75 energy skill. It's enough to use Gauss - but it's not great at all.
3. I like my Veronica with Ballistic Fist or a similar tool, full PA, Brotherhood perk, she is a tank I can just run around her and mop up. I only switch her to Q-35 or Gauss when fighting Deathclaws and similar enemies.
4. Google "fallout new vegas veronica fix". :-)
5. Cass and Raul do more damage than Boone when you setup them right. :-p

Veronica is currently just OK with ranged energy weapons. Nothing like the domamatrix Cass can be when given a Hunting Shotgun with a pile of slugs.

If you don't get the player mod for her, her energy weapon skill is 10. Ya, 10.

Ive tried Cass and Raul before. Cass using Dinner Bell and Raul using the Ranger Sequoia. They are both good but no way in hell do they match up to Boone with the Anti-Material Rifle and .50 AP rounds. Hes the guy I leave in the Lucky 38 because with him I never get to fight anything <_<

Boone is still damn deadly with his base hunting rifle. If I take him back as a follower (finished his quest and decided to get Veronica since now he wears NCR armor and will get me killed in places like Red Rock), I've been contemplating giving him a silenced sniper rifle though. That was the only part that svcked about having him, he uses a noisy rifle when I try to be stealthy.

Oh, and my followers keep going after nearby enemies when I'm not even under caution in places like Vaults. ED-E and Boone both going separate directions killing indiscriminately in Vault 22 was pretty annoying when I was still sneaking at the entrance.
