Version Control Problem

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:16 am

I followed this tutorial:
http://www.creationkit.com/Version_control

to the letter, but unfortunately it is not generating a Skyrim\Merging\ConstructionSetNetwork.ini file at all, even though it is giving me the popup for the empty list thing. I have no idea what to do now. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

Never mind, apparently unlike what it says in the CK site, you have to create this file, it isn't automatically generated by the CK.
Everything is dandy now.

Huh. Now I get a different problem. When I try to load the .esms after getting everything running (to the point where I have started the CK and the button that says "Version Control" shows up) I get a weird waiting screen that says the .fud file is in use. But the fud doesn't even exist yet. Wascally fud file.

Share folder permissions (your account needs write permission) or the net paths in the editor ini are wrong.

For these lines in the editor ini:

SNetwork Path=\\Maegfaer-PC\Merging\
SNewVersionBackupPath=\\Maegfaer-PC\Merging\VersionBackup\
SNetworkMasterPath=\\Maegfaer-PC\Merging\Data\

Should I replace Maegfaer-PC with just the name of my computer, or the full path? I've tried both, and they seem to give me different problems.

And to be clear, do I share the folder by right clicking, going down to Share with... going into advanced sharing and then doing it from there?

Well, I've noticed that I cannot share the folders with anyone, and this is not true of folders and files that are located outside of the Program Files directory.
So...am I screwed? Do I need to re-install skyrim to outside of my program files directory?
EDIT: Yes that was the problem, and I fixed it by moving my steam directory.

That's a Win7 Permissions issue (if I remember right, you can share inside programs folder, if you try hard enough (I'm not looking for the tutorial, though!) - Win7 UAC treats Program-Files and a couple of other places as restricted.

Could you have moved the Version Controlled folders to somewhere other than Programs? Or do they have to be with the rest of the Skyrim stuff?

Nice catch, though Ducey. :smile:

It seems like you have it working now? Can you try to remember to post to let us know if it keeps working?

(and which setup guide did you follow, if you followed one at all?)

I followed the one on the creation kit wiki, maefgaers.

And yes, it is mostly working. I think the problems I have left are due to my having used snip in the past.

And it isn't UAC thats the problem, its that you can't share from Program Files. Period. End of story.
UAC I already had disabled, this is a separate issue.

(At least I THINK that's the tutorial I followed when I had to do it for something else ...)
