I'm not sure how to find out how many hours I've played, but maybe around 30? However, this is my first CTD, and it's a very frustrating one.

I'm doing the Elder Knowledge main quest, and am in the Alftand Animonculory. My screenshot didn't seem to work, so I'll describe it in the hope that someone knows; I've come down a small passageway, turned right onto a kind of balcony in a room, at the end of which are some steps down on the left. At the bottom of these steps are three or four Falmer, and a pipe-thing with fire coming out of it. The way onwards is to turn left immediately at the bottom of the steps, and through a door at the end.

The first is just before the place, the second is where the crash happens most.

As soon as I do any of the following actions, the game CTDs (no error messages or anything, it's immediate):

• Loot a body
  
• Cast certain spells (specifically, Chain Lightning, dual-Ice Storm, Fire Rune)
  
• Running past the enemies and getting more than about 50m

Mods and utilities I'm using are SkyUI, FRAPS, DxTory frame limiter, SKSE, Hi-Res pack. I tried without FRAPS, DxTory and SKSE by closing them and using the Steam Launcher, but no change

I know theres a crash thread, but this is different because I can't actually get past this point at all. What should I do? Is there a way to get past this at all?

Not sure how to fix your CTD, other people will probably be able to help. But if you can't fix it, use the console to coc to Blackreach.

Wow, how did I not think of that? (probably because I played IV on Xbox and being new to Elder Scrolls on PC )

Yeah, it worked, and no more crashes so far. Will report back if anything happens...

It's of course not very fun to skip an entire section, but hell, it works. You should come back though if your crashes are frequent.
