Hey, I was wondering if anyone could provide some links or information on some alright video editing software, for youtube videos and such. Just something that renders videos properly and removes black blocks either side of the screen ect

I prefer the adobe products for video editing.

Adobe Premier and After Effects are very nice though have somewhat of a learning curve if you are new to adobe products.

A lot of my friends use Sony Vegas Pro.

1. letterboxing is there for a reason

2. If you're uploading it to youtube, then the letterboxing will come back if you didn't get the aspect ratio right

3. http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_docman&gid=8&task=cat_view&Itemid=189 is the best free non-linear video editor on Windows. That said, for basic editing like removal of letterboxing, avidemux, virtualdub, and Windows Movie Maker are more than capable.

A learning curve isn't a problem IMO. All non-linear video editors have a learning curve. It just comes with the territory.

If you're uploading something in a 4:3 resolution it will always have black bars. "Removing" them by stretching the horizontal resolution will just make it look distorted.

I use Camtasia Studio, it's simple enough for my needs.

Upside - Final Cut Pro is awesome.
Downside - Need to use a Mac.

If you're on a budget but want to use Adobe then Premier Elements ought to do you nicely.

I remember reading about how the folks behind the VLC media player were also working on a video editor, but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time. I hope it's not dead.
