No video transcoding for ATI?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:58 pm

I have a HD 6850 and there's no option for transcoding. Still having bad texture streaming and pop-in problems even after trying the various config file fixes.

My brother has a comparable NVIDIA card and there's an option for GPU transcoding. He isn't having these problems. Although the texture quality he's getting is still bad.

Anyone know if Rage supports ATI's GPU transcoding?

I've only heard of it for the Nvidia cards. Pretty disappointing. I have a Radeon HD 9670 2GB GDDR5 video RAM. It's being woefully underused. The fan hardly even revs up. However it's putting phenomenal load on my CPU.

Sorry title should have read ATI:)

Same here re: super hi load on the cpu.

ATI definitely supports transcoding. It's called something different. But the functionality is there.

The question is whether or not Rage supports it.

The problem is that it was NVIDIA who wrote the code for this for id software and naturally they used NVIDIA's proprietary CUDA rather than the open OpenCL API. So unless ATI offer their programming services to id software to create a OpenCL version ATI users will be out of luck.

Same thing happened when NVIDIA added AA support to Arkam Asylum... NVIDIA only even though ATI supports the same features.
