Visions of the Outsider

Yea so when skyrim came out there was a post where people would post their own stories about how the hero came to be a
prisoner in Skyrim and i just it would be fun if we did something similar with the Outsider. Who/what is he, how many
of these "catalysts" has he imparted power to aside from Corovo, why does he delight in seeing chaos created, how long
has he been around and where did he come from? Just whatever you guys feel, you can make yours as long or short as you want. Ok so i will be doing mine from the perspective
of an archeologist/journalist who visits Dunwall and is presenting his findings(or something like that)

Visions of the Outsider: Article I

Accounts of the one known as the Outsider go back as far as 200 years in Dunwall's history. Even now, some revere this
mystical creature in hopes of having him visit them and to have him impart power onto them. The government, however, sees
the Outsider as a figment of the peoples imagination, brought about by disillusioned zealots who wish to make an old
folk tale into something more than it was inteded to be. Still, some people say that they have actually seen this Outsider
and suggest that he has been around long before Dunwall was even thought of, sighting that he has walked the earth for aeons
of time and has taken on different forms throughout mankind's existence. I had the chance to interview a retired whale hunter
who we will call "Sam". Sam report: "Yes when I was just a wee boy barely coming into my teenage years, I was visted by
a stranger dressed in a dark cloak like jacket, the hood veiling his face. I wasn't sure what to make of him but I noticed
he had a visible aura about him that was similar to that of seeing heat waves flow from the scorched ground in the hottest
of summers. I knew that was unusal becuase it was the dead of winter and we were on a ship in the middle of the ocean. I
hadn't seen this fellow when we had boarded the boat, but then again it was whole host of strangers on the ship from wandering
vagrants to up-start mariners looking to get their feet wet like me. It was one of those nights that I couldn't sleep so
I went out on deck and glared as the night sky melded with the black sea. Then out of nowhere it seems,he appeared beside
me, scared me half to death. He asked if I wished for "the power to change the world" and I just looked at him with
a mixture of fear and confusion. And then you know what he did next?...He produced this thing that looked like a charm
out of thin air like they do at one of those magic shows or something. I was suspious at first but took it anyways cause you
know I figure "what do I have to lose"? Afterall if worse came to I figured the damn thing might be worth something and I
could sell for a quick buck. I asked him: Sir who are you why give this to me. He was silent for a second and then he looked
up at me just slightly, and I saw the most hair raising thing I saw in my life, glowing red eyes peering back at me. I was
frozen solid, maybe out of fear or maybe becuase his eyes just had that kind of power over me. He stepped back about two feet
and before i knew it he vanished into a shadowy blackness that was darker than the night's sky. It took me a while to process
what just happened. In the next coming days I tried looking for the strange man on the ship but I couldn't identify anyone
who remotely looked like him. Anyhow, I ended up making a necklace out of the charm the stranger gave me and I had it for
a long time until one day the ship I was working on hit a rouge wave and leveled half the boat and threw me overboard. I was
rescued by my fellow ship mates but when I came back up my necklace was gone. It pretty much a done deal then that it
was lost to the ocean, really hate that that happened. Years later, I saw a poster that bore a stark resemblence to the
man I saw on the boat that night. It had "The Outsider walks amongst us" in the border of it, and then I started asking
around town and apparently seveal other people had seen him also. Then I knew wasn't alone. I started doing my own research
and found out that this "unknown" had been seen by people in Dunfall alone going back almost two centries. Seems like he
can change his shape into just about anything he wants be it living or inanimate, and has been known to ask people if they
crave the power to change the world or something along those line. Don't know who this Ousider is or what his ultimate
goal is but he's definately real to me!"
Sam's account behooved me to do my own research and before I knew it I was looking all over the place for as much info on the
Outsider that I could find. What I've found thus far has been astonding. I was able to pool together records from across the
world that point to a cloaked figure with godlike abilites appearing during times of great distress thoughout different periods of
in mankind's history such as Red Eyes from ancient China, Strange Bear from early Native American folklore, the Wanderer from
Norse Scandinavia, and Gifter from ancient Egypt. All of these stories seems to have one thing in common: A cloaked figure
appearing during times of war or plague offering power to select individuals and creating a kind of "catalyst" from them.
In each account the stranger gave no explaination as to why he was offering this power or what these individuals were to
do with it. Some used it for good and some used it to feed their own selfish desires, but they all seemed to have received
a type of tatto on their left hands after aquiring these "gifts". In the Native American account, the "catalyst" dies in
battle and the tatto on his hand disappears. It may be safe to say that this was the case with the others, assmuming
the above actually happened. Nonetheless my research goes on, and I will continue to search for answers as to who or
what this Outsider really is and his origins...
