Vlogging help?

Post » Mon Dec 16, 2013 8:42 pm

Hello! Long time, no see. Anyway, I make YouTube videos under the name ThatMartinFellow in my free time. It keeps my mind distracted and gives me something fun to do and is one of the rare things that makes me genuinely happy instead of just faking it. It's a lot of fun and though I appreciate every single one of my thirty subscribers, I would soon like to be able to garner at least 100 views a video. So what better way than to ask people what they feel makes vlogs better? So what do you like in a vlog? What are some elements you love, hate, and wish to see more of?

If there is interest I shall link a video or so from mine for critiques.

what are you vlogging? If you don't have any aim or any particular thing that interests you enough to vlog about it, then all you can do is post random videos. Random assortments of videos don't make people relate to you/what your saying so you'll get less subscribers.

So, focus if you don't have a focus yet. If you do have a focus, post what it is.

I do various things. It's similar to vloggers such as Dan Howell, Charlie McDonnell, Alex Day, etc.

I'm not familiar with any of those names. In general, even if I knew them I wouldn't recognize their names since I'm horrible with names.

As I said, not having a focus will make it much harder to achieve your goals as you'll get less subscribers and returning viewers. When you focus, once someone finds your videos (assuming they like it) they'll think something along the lines of "Oh, this video is cool... Oh, he does other stuff about this *subscribe*". If all your videos are unrelated they'll see that and be less likely to subscribe because the chances are that your other videos won't interest them since they're all different.

The alternative is instead of focusing on content, you focus on personality, which is what I'm guessing those other guys have going for them. The fact of the matter is that there are a million people trying to show off their personality and the vast majority are nobodies.

Content is king. Personality helps make you stand out more, yes, but very few can make it purely on personality. Trying to compete on personality is akin to trying to become a movie star. Lots of people want to, lots of people try, but very few will ever make it.

Nice advice, thank you. I'm not actually sure how to articulate things clearly, so do you mind taking a look at my channel and giving me more tips from there?

My newest video is the channel trailer. My old videos I have long hair and my new I have short.
