Voices not working...

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:45 pm

So I am following the tutorial for making quests and I did a little recording of the dialogue so that it gives you time to read the text. When I play this in game however, the voice file doesn't play and it instantly goes to the next part of the dialogue...

Anyone know what's going on?

Try force reselecting the sound file, does this happen with every voice-over or just this one?

Good read on the matter http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Dialogue

Yeah, I'm following that tutorial exactly, yet it still fails to work...

Try to re-record the voice. I've ran into this before following the same tutorial. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't and I had to change something's around with the quests and scripts. But try re-recording first.

Watching this thread closely, because I'm also having this exact same issue.

I can't speak for dan, but, in my issue, I just use the record button, let it do around 10 seconds of recording (silence I believe, you don't want to hear my voice) and click save. It then automatically path's itself to what I just recorded. Once I go in game, it just goes through the text quickly.

Same for me, except that I am recording my voice.

If anyone has actually successfully added dialogue, would you mind letting us know how you went about it?

If you select the ".wav" radio button down in the audio section for lip syncing it should work. I did this for silent audio files and they played the full duration after I checked it off.

i have created new responses with sound files that came with skyrim using this method from http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1346045-adding-dialogue-audio/page__p__20285910#entry20285910

It's painful, but here is what I do:

1. Create the new response with just the text, click the OK button (twice, once for the spellcheck, once to close the window).
2. Double-click your just created response to open that same window again. Except, in the "Voice Filename" area, there should now be the name (and below, the path) to the sound file the game expects.
3. Rename your existing .wav file to to match what the game has auto-generated and put it in the specified location--you may need to manually create the proper directory the first time.
4. Double-click OK again to close, then re-open the response window again.
5. This time, highlight the sound file in the list, choose the "From WAV" radio button at the bottom, after which the "Generate Lip File" button should become available. Click it, wait a second, and you're done--on to the next response!

This worked thanks man! I think the problem was is that I have Skyrim installed on 2 different Hard drives (incase I mess up an ESP file). So I have 2 different steam folders and wasn't moving the voice file over!!
Thanks a lot!

Hey, I'm having same issues.

I did everything exactly like your suppose to but I still cannot get the voice to work in the game. I checked the recording. I double checked everything a hundred times and still cannot hear the voice in the game or even make a silent recording.

Does the Sound file need to be be a .xwm? I notice that in the Voice Filname it shows this for example: GSQ01_GSQ01MeetingBenduBra_00001EB5_1 and the file it is trying to find is GSQ01_GSQ01MeetingBenduBra_00001EB5_1.XWM but my sound file is .WAV. Does this matter?

Also, whenever I try to Preview a sound I get this: AUDIO: Unable to open Audio file Data\Sound\Voice\Temp.wav

Noobo, looks like you just don't have a voice chosen for the NPC you are using, if you go into the Actor properties of the NPC you are using just select something like MaleDrunk in the Voice Type field.

  • Create a WAV file via the RECORD button
  • Create a LIP file via "generate LIP file" -> "from WAV"
  • If you want to, you are free to convert the WAV into a XWM (use xWMAEncode from the latest MS DX-SDK)
  • Now you can rename either the WAV or the XWM to FUZ - Skyrim will play it regardless, what format you have renamed
well ... that's how it works for me

You can create your on voice file using the specific actor's name and when you create your NPC give him that voice file. This allows you to voice that character and not have all of the default misc dialogue with a voice file such as Maledarkelf. That way your character doesn't use two different voices.

The problem here is that record isn't working for about half the CK users out there. THere is a configure button next to record and save that is glitched for a lot of us. You select your mike and are met with a [censored] "import format" screen with no options and no way to select ok.

That being said I found a way to add audio by making wav files in the proper format and dropping it straight in the folder. Then I went into CK, selected that file, and created a .lip file from it. Totally worked. Here's the link the forum I posted the instructions on. They're a little condensed and Im tired as hell but I'll try to put a video up tomorrow.

Is there a work around to create quests (dialogue) without a microphone?

A bit late, I know, but I'd suggest Audacity to create silent sound files.

What I'm not sure of is where to put the manufactured files, and how to get actors to use them

I have dialogue ingame, but it's all files from voice actors, not recorded in the CK. However, to test scenes I record myself reading the line quickly. I've had it work for some lines, and not for others... :/
