Voices, Sound Issues

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 7:32 am

I've been experiencing odd sound issues.

As far as ambient sound goes, I've been getting lots of buzzing or 'interference'. That's not nearly as bad as the voices though. I'll be talking to someone, and then all of a sudden they'll start 'wah wah wah'-ing, like I just stepped into a Charlie Brown cartoon. Their voice goes extremely deep, I hear an echo, and lots of interference as if they were speaking too close to the mike. You can't make out a word they're saying.

Any ideas? I'm going to check my sound card, then reduce graphical settings. Or maybe I should reinstall?

Update: It wasn't the graphical settings, or apparently my sound card.

there's been a fix posted to change audio to 44KHz sample rate (not 192K or some other value)

Same exact issue here. Sorry that I cannot offer a solution, other than turn caption on for the moment. It's pretty annoying. I thought it was a Creative problem and checked to see if I have the latest driver (I do). Obviously, it is not just related to Creative audio. I will try the fix.

I'm not having any distortion or buzzing but my audio is almost silent, have to turn my speakers RIGHT UP to hear anything.

I've tried the 44 KHz audio work-around but it's not fixed anything, I am currently checking if my drivers need an update but people have tried that too.

Solution from Psik0 :

Guys, I had the same problem as you did, and I've found a way to get around that (tested it myself and it works)
Go to your documents and then \My Games\Skyrim there is a file called SkyrimPrefs.
Inside it, scroll down to the very bottom and you'll find 2 lines:
[AudioMenu]
fAudioMasterVolume=1.000
Just change that 1.000 to a higher value, according to your listening needs (personally, i use 4.000)
Have Fun ;)

Changing my Audio quality to 44 Khz has fixed it for me. Thank goodness too, because everyone that I used to speak too, their voices would become completely garbled and I would not be able to understand a thing.
