Vokken's Issue List and Workarounds

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 12:48 am

This topic is intended to list software specific issues with Skyrim that are not hardware or computer specific. In other words, any issues here should be able to be reproduced on multiple machines with different configurations. Think of it as a guide for workarounds and future patches.

If anyone wants to bump this topic while providing additional bugs, details and/or workarounds for the list, post a reply.

44100 Hz sound limit

Every single person I know on Steam, out of my friends list, who has installed this game has had this issue. If we set our sounds quality setting above 44100 Hz, either we get constant static in the background or the game crashes from the main menu to the desktop. Our computers vary. Some are Intel, some are AMD. Some of us have on-board audio, others have dedicated sound cards. This issue doesn't SEEM hardware specific.

WORKAROUND: Do not set your sound quality above 44100 Hz.

Low Voices

When some people talk, they're incredibly low in volume. Overall the games volume seems lower than it should be, which may or may not be related to the sound quality limit issue above. I have to max out my speakers and/or headset in order for anything to be 'loud', which at this point is generally only combat sounds. I require confirmation on if this issue is on Skyrim's end or my own. I do not experience this issue in any other game, including TES IV Oblivion.

WORKAROUND: None.

Weapon Favorites Confusion

I noticed this issue last night. If I have two long bow's in my inventory, favorite one, and set it to a macro (i.e. '2'), that button will not work. If instead I only have one long bow, it works perfectly fine. I haven't been able to reproduce this problem on other weapons yet.

WORKAROUND: Keep only one long bow in your inventory at a time.

Troll spawns(?)

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but during one of my sessions I couldn't go anywhere without running into those giant Troll's. At level 6 on my Mage character, I constantly ran into groups of three of them. I had two major problems with this. One, they were three-shotting dragons. Two, they were one-shotting me. I don't know what the intent was here but it feels like the game is running on a higher difficulty than default when it comes to these guys spawning. I would expect them to spawn more often and in groups at later levels, but perhaps I'm missing something. Luckily after dieing several times they are replaced with elementals or frost-type enemies (i.e. Frost Spider).

WORKAROUND: If this isn't working as intended, die several times and the spawn of the Troll(s) should change.
