Volkihars are masters of The Voice?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:23 am

I was just playing Skyrim and was on my way up the Throat of the World and the first watching said that the power of the voice could be used to "blot out the sky and flood the land." It would be an interesting angle to go from with this DLC and I know I would enjoy it, but since they need an Elder Scroll in order to do so something tells me this isn't true unless they need the scroll to find the location of the Word Wall to learn this Thu'um.

Just an interesting point I thought I would bring up.

well this actually makes no sense xD, the Elder Scroll is an ancient "thing" that no one understand it's real purpose, it usually is associated with prophecies, but no one understands it's real power, maybe except the Dwemer, but they are dead so it does not count
In Skyrim we used the Elder scrolls to travel in time in a time wound to learn a shout from it's creators, but this is just a use of it, unless bethesda say otherwise, they can do anything that no one know how, or when, or why  q-

The Volkihar already in the game don't shout
At least I don't think they do

Interesting Concept. Perhaps the ability to shroud the sun is a Shout, similar to Clear Skies and Alduin's Meteor Storm.

They don't, but technically, there's no reason why they can't. Given their long Lifespans, a Vampire makes an idea candidate to master the Thu'um. All it would take is one Vampire knowing how to teach the Thu'um to open it up for every vampire really.

There's more than one scroll. Just because that one allows you to travel through time rifts doesn't mean they all do.

But you're just looking for an Elder Scroll, they never say you need a specific one(s) to see the past.

I find it a bit wierd they can use the scrolls at all. I thought they were so powerful they blinded all who use it. The only reason you aren't blinded is because you have dragon blood, and even then your vision is messed up for a few seconds.

I thought elder scrolls just show the reality of the world, in oblivion they showed the grey fox the original thief of the cowl, thus breaking the curse of...people not knowing who you are. In skyrim they allowed you to glimpse into the past, much like the grey fox did.

If anything that appears to be all they are used for...besides the prophesy thing

You're blinded if you sit there and actually try to read it. Maybe they won't have to. Plus, I mean, they are master vampire lords, so...

Vampires have a unique vision ability: Vampire Sight.

They dont blind anyone who reads it once afaik. I could be wrong but afaik it blinds only those who repeatedly study it and become obsessed and read it a lot to have "almost" gotten a mastered understanding of it, which in my opinon is probably almost no mastery at all still because it seems their nature not to be masterable.

The Elder Scroll itself will block out the sun, they wont use shouts...

Oh and since they are vampires, I'm betting their leader is thousands of years old so he prolly be studying up on the Elder Scrolls for a very long time to do this and now he knows how to do it so he is gonna try to do it.

The Elder Scrolls are pretty much a plot device in themselves, a deus ex machina. I can't see why the use the scroll to find the word wall to find the word to blot the sun idea is any more invalid as another. In fact, I like that one. Use that one, Todd.

I have actually come to believe that the current vampires in Skyrim that carry Sanguinare Vampiris are just another strain of vampires not related to the Volkihars. Immortal Blood just said they were the strongest strain of vampires in Skyrim, not the only one. So I think the ones that are named Volkihars in Skyrim are just imitators in order to scare off others or keep this strain in check. At least we know these vampires in Dawnguard are Volkihars so hopefully Beth stays true to the description in Immortal Blood.

The Elder Scroll is Beth's scapegoat, a go-to deus ex machina. So there's nothing stopping them from taking out the sun with it. The voice, on the other hand, I'd say will play a lesser role.

well in oblivion it rewrote history with the grey fox in skyrim they time traveled I'm guessing the elder scroll itself will not block out the sun but offer a means to block out the sun like summoning a permanent shroud over it or making a forever eclipse or maybe changing the sun itself to a red dwarf or something
but perhaps it's not even blocking the sun but curing vampires of the damage the sun causes them
