Wait or muddle on through?

Last night I was playing New Vegas, trying to get over a plateau to a spot I hadn't discovered yet. Only problem was I kept hitting invisible walls. Wall after wall after wall! Then finally my game froze. Again. *sigh*

I was annoyed.

I took New Vegas out of my PS3 and slid in Fallout 3. The sun was rising on the DC Wasteland bathing the landscape golden. The Enclave were setting up their satellite dishes on hilltops and on a destroyed over-pass near Seneca Station and I was trying to avoid Albino Rad Scorpions. I found an ant cave that I hadn't found in my previous two run throughs of the game. This was about 1:30 AM. Next thing I knew it was 5:00 AM. The game didn't crash not one time and the game play was so satisfying.

If it wasn't for all the glitches and crashes I think I would enjoy Fallout: New Vegas much more. I don't know. Maybe if New Vegas didn't lag and glitch and crash I would feel like exploring more. And maybe if I could run over a plateau I would feel like exploring more. To me New Vegas just doesn't seem as vast and intricate as Fallout 3. Sure there is more dialog, blah, blah, blah, people talking at me and wanting me to do stuff for them. Um...where was I going with this. Exactly.

Right now New Vegas is an exercise in frustration for me. Hopefully they will successfully fix it and I can get on with my New Vegas life. Till then I'm going to hold off playing it because I've gotten to the point where I'm starting to hate it and I don't want that to happen.

What has your solution been to dealing with all the glitches?

I haven't needed any solution, as I've had no major bugs.

And 95% of the crashes I've had were mod related.

You are lucky then. How is it possible that we have the same game? :/

And how do you feel about not being able to walk over a plateau?

Whenever I have a run in with a bug or crash I curse then go buy 1 .50MG round and kill 1 random wastlenader. Soon I will have to buy 1 bullet for all of New Vegas! :swear: :gun:

Edit: I still enjoy this game to death even with its various problems. :fallout:

Wait or muddle on through?

Muddle through.

The game will improve with patches, and it offers a great time when it works... [Personally] I've encountered no bugs that I can't overlook ~yet.
Its already on my "always install" list. (and might stay there for years)

Fallout 3 enjoys the benefit of having been out for three years already giving plenty of time to find the bugs. There's little wonder in my mind why it runs better.

As for your initial question (the later additions seem irrelevant), it depends on who you ask. Some people will jump to claim that Fallout: New Vegas was developed by the Devil himself with the sole intention of crashing and frustrating the gamer, and others love it.

Me personally, I love it. I have it on the Xbox 360 and I've only had minor problems.

Probably because games on Bethesda's engine on the PS3 are known to be really buggy and crash-happy sometimes.

I constantly defrag my computer, update drivers, optimize my computer, stuff like that. The only problems I have with games on those that everyone has, ie, the problem that was presented in the 1.5 patch for Fallout on the PC.

I got a mod that removed invisible walls a long time ago.

I wouldn't say I tolerate the bugs, but when I encounter a bug, or lag, usually if a cell lags a frustratingly large ways, I'll leave the cell and hope it doesnt freeze, I find slowing down and going easy on the system takes alot of strain off.

I noticed your gentle attempt to slip in a 'Fallout 3 is better' section, I'd advise you to stop, not for my sake, but there is always someone who HAS to berate a Fallout 3 fan, apparently like all Fallout games equally is a crime.

It took what, at least 5 month to get a large doses of patch for Fallout 3? New Vegas is still in month 1 and a half.

As for the wall, well keep in mind that it is basically what holding the Deathclaws and other baddies at their place. That say, there a mod to remove those wall if ya have a PC version. Ya have a PS3 version, so ya stuck with that.

I'm playing on a PC and I haven't had any real problems. I've had a few CTDs here and there, but I've come to expect that, and it hardly ever happens anyway.

Even on the PC, some people seem to be having major problems and some aren't. That makes sense, because it's nigh impossible to account for every possible hardware combination and the problems that may arise.

It's pretty bad that the console versions are as bugged as they seem to be, because there's not much variation in the hardware for the consoles. Getting those working should have been easy.

Play it on the PC. It has console commands and fan-made mods/patches to fix or work around any and all bugs I ran into.

I have the PC version I haven't tried yet. Maybe I need to give that a try and get the invisible wall mod. Hm.

Well, I'm not saying it's better because I don't really know for sure since I haven't gotten to play FNV without all the glitches. I'd say it's different.

I usually ignore 'beraters'. They have a right to their opinion and I have a right to mine. *shrug*

Sorry, I need to learn how to do the multiple quote thing.

Something to remember though... It was said that those walls were usually for the AI's benefit, and that removing them could affect their behavior.
(bugs introduced from their removal should be considered a side effect, and not a flaw).

Boone, ED-E and I are off swimming in Cottonwood Cove and we make the occasional trip down the river to the Fort so Boone can have revenge on the Legion. Come on and join us, the water's fine. I'll make a picnic; bring a dish. :)

(Oh My Papa kinda of ended my game. I can't take it where I wanted to take it, unfortunately.)

svcks that your game crashes - I'm lucky, hasn't happened to me (though I'm on 360, don't know if that makes a difference). I've found glitches, which, tbh, don't bother me too much, but the invisible walls are a bloody pain. However, I'd say muddle through - it's totally worth it :fallout:
