Waking Nightmare and the Skull of Corruption

*This contains spoilers from the Daedric quest Waking Nightmare*

I did the Waking Nightmare quest just a couple weeks ago but I've wondering what you guys did. You'll remember at the end you're given an ultimatum from Vaermina. As Erandur, (the man that has been helping you along through the quest), is beginning a spell to break through the barrier and destroy the staff, Vaermina speaks to you and tries convincing you to kill Erandur and take the Skull of Corruption for yourself. As badly as I wanted that staff I'm a good guy and just couldn't bring myself to kill Erandur. The poor guy has been helping me save the entire town of Dawnstar from Vaermina's grasp so I couldn't just slay him for a unique weapon. The reward for not killing him is you get to keep him as a follower.

My question to you is what did you do? Did you succumb to Vaemina's wishes, kill Erandur, and take the Skull of Corruption for youself, or did you let Erandur destroy the staff and gain him as a trusty follower?

Also, I have another question. If you didn't take the Skull of Corruption, do you still get the achievement where you need to have collected all of the Daedric artifacts?

Let him destroy the staff.

Good man. Weren't you tempted by the staff at all? Or do Daedric artifacts and interests not take the fancy of sir Buckom? lol

Have you used Erandur as a follower?

My warrior had no use for the staff, but it didn't matter. No way I'm trusting a Daedric prince who desperately tries to convince me Erandur will take the staff for himself. And no way I'm killing Erandur! He became one of my favorite NPCs during that quest and went straight up on the list of people in Skyrim I wish my characters could marry.

My warrior didn't use him as a follower, but my mage probably will.

Nah, I smith on both of my characters and I don't like being punked by demi-gods who don't have the power to face me - I like Sheogorath and Sanguine because they weren't little female dogs - at least not in Skyrim (I've heard that they're asses in other TESs, right?). I have http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc398/buckomccane/Skyrim/marriage_01.jpg, but that was a accident, Charlie Murphy - I was havin' too much fun. On my first character I tried to back out of the dialogue to save before I passed a point of no return and Silus attacked me. On my 2nd character I had forgotten that's what would happen and did the same thing and the same thing happened. Didn't feel too badly on either because Silus was a creepy guy and I didn't trust him, anyway. That what my lawyer told me to say and I'll say the same thing no matter how many times you ask me.

I have the Mace of Molag Bal because I was tricked into the quest on my 1st character and on my 2nd one I knew about Boethiah so I said F it and did it. I have the http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc398/buckomccane/Skyrim/daed_arti_01.jpg. I also have the Ebony Blade on my 2nd one (hadn't stumbled across The Whispering Door on my 1st one, yet), but it won't be used. I refuse to do Boethiah's Calling and The Taste of Death.

I don't use followers in the traditional sense. I started bringing Mjoll with me on my Assassin Chick after I hit like 65 mainly because my girl wears clothing in towns and around people and I like looking like I have a bodyguard. I started bringing Lydia around with me on my Warrior Dude because she just looks too hot in Ancient Nord Armor and the helmet draws attention to her eyes...yes, her actual eyes.

I agree.

I really didn't have a use for the staff but I just love collecting things in Skyrim, and man is it hard to pass up such a unique artifact. But I had to, Erandur was just too good of a guy for me to literally stab him in the back while he was in the middle of destroying the staff and after we just did all that stuff together.

However, there were some very small hints throughout the quest that gave me a slight feeling he might betray me. A few of the things he said along with him making me do everything like drinking that potion to go back in time made me worry. Then wouldn't you know it Vaermina pops into my head and tells me Erandur is up to no good and means to betray me. I had to pause the game and think for a second about what to do. I figured if he was going to keep the staff why would Vaermina want me to kill him? She knew I wanted the staff gone but only Erandur knew the ritual necessary to destroy it. So I hoped for the best and let things play out. Erandur and I rejoiced and held hands jumping up and down after we destroyed the evil Skull of Corruption and foiled Vaermina's plans! I took 'ole Erandur up to the Dawnstar tavern for a drink afterwards. :foodndrink:

On the other hand, for every hint, every time he doesn't tell you the whole story, later on he proves you actually can trust him. He might not be a complete Good Guy, and he has a past, but you know - that's kind of typical for my favorite characters. (I doubt anyone who has been active in the same threads as me has missed that I loooove Ulfric - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't if he had been Unquestionable Noble and Good. And one of my favorite A Song of Ice and Fire characters is Tyrion Lannister - twisted, wicked, good and evil all in one.)
