I wanna be a bandit

Post » Sat Jun 01, 2013 3:38 am

Will i be able to rob helpless adventurers, who just stroll down the path without ever thinking to check their surroundings? Will i be able to lay low and wait for me prey to fall into my trap? Can i stalk someone and wait for the perfect time to stick me dagger in their back? When i say "adventurers", i mean other players. not NPC's.

Please tell me yes. because i wanna be a bandit.

Oh man, some sort of FFA faction like a bandit would be fun.

Nope, this is a thempark mmo not a sandbox FFA full loot PVP.

If you really want a game with a rogue faction and full player bounty system take a look at the up and coming ArcheAge or you could take a look at DarkFall.

I would be in favor of being able to kill other players in PvE if the penalty for getting caught was a lifetime ban, just like real life.

ArcheAge maybe, but lol Darkfall I might as well just light my fart with a hundred dollar bill because it would be a better investment.

In a word? No. This isn't that type of mmo.

You may want to try archeage. If you commit enough crimes and go to jail enough you'll become a pirate /bandit. New quests, law-abiding npcs become hostile, you can kill travellers, destroy trade ships, and live on a safe island with other pirates.

ESO is a themepark mmo. It's more about going through set quests, pvping, dungeons and the like. You seem to be looking for a more sandbox experience

I think that zenimax has artificially limited themselves by doing the faction system how they did (I would have preferred making my character and then having the option to join one of three factions later on, ones that weren't so limited by race ofc), but now I doubt you'll ever be able to play as a bandit :(

It's stuff like that that would help the game immeasurably in today's market imo

Would be fun though if you could actually "explore" other professions though, bandit or pirate...ah well!

I've always thought it'd be awesome in an FFA Full-loot game that if you do enough terrible deeds/crimes, get your bounty up high enough and NPC guards catch you, there is a chance they will publicly execute you and it deletes that character and distributes your wealth/items among those you wronged. You can always make a new one, sure, but you'd be starting out fresh again (and maybe branded somehow with the legacy of your previous character).

That's in my design doc for what I call the "impossible game" or "perfect MMO" (at least perfect in my eyes).

Welcome to the forums. Yes you can ambush adventurers in this fashion in Cyrodiil, sneaking mechanic allows you to lurk at choke point for as long as you want

But to be clear, no stealing from them, just killing them. And you aren't a bandit because you aren't committing any crime, you are legitimately engaging your alliance's enemy on the field of battle.

It's not like they'd just be strolling down the road minding their own business either. If they're in Cyrodiil, they're ready for a fight.

Its Elder Scrolls, it would be legitimate from his alliance point of view, crime in the eyes of the other two alliances

The answer is yes. You can play Bandit in Cyrodiil as much as you want. In DAoC, stealthers and stealth groups did it all the time... wait in a high traffic area and ambush passer-by's.

Not if this is an agreed-upon war, which it seems to be since it isn't bleeding over into any of the other provinces. The alliances have clearly set up some sort of treaty that keeps all fighting out of their homelands.

But not bandits. You cannot steal from anyone and you are in a PvP zone where people will be expecting PvP. You're missing what he's asking/hoping for.

I'm not, it's just that particular answer has been beaten to death by so many countless threads on this forums... I thought I'd give him the straight to the point.

If you're asking for FFA PvP, then no, never, nadda.

Its not "agreed-upon" war, its interregnum, 500 years long civil war filled with conflicts

Can't make sense that way, otherwise war would be everywhere, not just Cyrodiil.

Only while moving.

So you're...trolling and/or purposefully giving misinformation? I don't get it.

If there was option to become an bandit, Then everyone would become bandits, then bandits would conquer tamriel and start civilizating. And then , they would make a new empire of peace and justice

Think of it like the trench-war stalemate in WWI.

The factions are so evenly matched that none of them can gain the advantage for long. They keep fighting over the same territory. One side captures Bruma, then another takes it back, rinse and repeat.

We've had wars like this IRL.
