Wanted To Get Rid of Tab-Targetting? Boy, are you guys in fo

Post » Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:08 am

So on account of all the whiners, apparently they're getting rid of tab-targetting completely. Great news, huh? Well, no.

Here's why...

For all those who enjoy their "free-form" targetting in Elder Scolls, you're in for a real treat now that Zenimax removed Tab-targetting... I know free-form targetting is fun in games like skyrim, where the mob conveniently sits in front of you or moves around a little bit while you whack the crap out of it free-form style, but have you ever tried to do that in PvP?

With free-form targetting in PvP, you'll have the utter enjoyment of having idiots jumping up and down, and spinning in circles around you, sprinting and zig-zagging all over the place, and otherwise being [censored] in order to not get hit. And why shouldn't they? Afterall, they'll be getting rewarded for it won't they???

But most of you Edler Scrollers don't even care about PvP do you?? You're up in arms to get them to change it so you can buy the game, blast through the PvE, and then put it on the shelf, while wrecking the game for all the REAL MMO'ers who are actually willing to keep paying for the service that Zenimax is offering... So, taking your advice will destroy PvP, and ultimately be the games down-fall of longevity, but that's OK, so long as you guys can blast through the content, and then stop paying the monthly fee afterwards.... Kudos. Except that $300 million was invested into this game, so when it goes belly-up on account of the MMO'ers not wanting to stay and support it, that money will come right out of Elder Scrolls 6, (if they're even is one), so enjoy...

Brings skill into the fold of PvP. If you can't hit me, well you probably don't have the skill to hit me, and vice versa. I think it'd be fine.

What if they implement it in a way that allows for easy targetting? I feel your pain, specially for ranged classes, BUT if they spend the $300 millions and get it right it would be what many have sought for... I'm a hardcoe MMO player (been playing them for the last 13 years without paying attention to single player titles), have about 50 hours of skyrim (though its growing lately due to lack of interesting MMO's for me). Think the single player titles that have had more attention from me were Oblivion and CIV so I'm not the typical single player, I'm by definition a MMO player AND I welcome the the erasing of tab targetting! Hurray for someone trying to do something different!!!!

I could go on about what the change would be good for (real time combat, movement and tactics skill over clicking... the list goes on), but it seems you just want another clone with a TES feel! I want a TES game with a MMO approach, and i'm happy to say it looks like thats what they are trying to do..

That's always the complaint isn't it? If someone wants tab-targetting, people talk about skill, but guess what? Even with tab-targetting it still takes skill, even more skill... You still have to know exactly what to do, who to attack, what to attack with at any given moment, whereas with free-form, the main focus is just on aiming, the person who aims the best is gunna win so guess what, now you have idiots running and jumping and swiveling around... Want to play an archer? Good luck. Want to play a magic-user? Prepare to be a walking corpse...

TES doesn't need free-form targetting to be unique, they're already unique... Tab-targetting is a tried and true MMO function that simply works, and prevents the idiots from acting like idiots... If they do get rid of it entirely, the game will still be unique, it just will make PvP a senseless pain in the ass... The peopel who actually understand why Tab-Targetting is superior in MMO's have failed to speak out, and now the game is dead in the water unless they go back to the correct system.

Wow man, butthurt much?

I still think it'll be peachy keen, I'm not worried. Have you played chivalry?

plenty of action games work just fine, how about C9, i was in the beta, perfectly fine PVP

you strike me as someone who may svck at PvP because you have to be able to stand there or may not have the coordination.

Just because your jimmies are rustled doesnt mean you should come trolling on our forum about it. Wait and see before you start crying.

First I've heard of this, was it mentioned in an interview with the developers?

Just learned recently about a game on Steam Greenlight called Forge, which is a very interesting sort of medieval fantasy MMO-style PvP game that uses hit detection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAYvIeFR5ek

Currenlty, it has a mix of tab-targetting and free-form, but that's only because they're still in the process of transitioning fully to the free-form targetting, as I understand.

Yeah, show me one PVP where people actually stand still and do [censored], that must be boring. You go to PVP zone, you stand still and kill everyone, I suppose thats what you want.

meh. even if they get rid of it entirely. it's way better than standing still and pressing 1 2 3 1 4 1 2 3 1 4 over and over ad nausiem. but my understanding is it will be a mix of both. weapon attacks are aimed. hot bar skills are tab-target.

AoC had hit detection too, theres plenty of those.

I dont understand whats OP problem really, theres Rift and WoW still for those who prefer old school tab-target combat. I cant wait this. Especially in Rift people run like headless chickens because theres so much healing (too much, way too much)
